Steve is tormented by a nightmare in which he's in the operating room with Carolee and Matt yells at him for his selfish ways. Detective Cadman arrives in the middle night to say that he read Dan's journal. He realizes that Steve is innocent. Steve angrily accuses him of jumping to conclusions, and when Cadman counters that he was just doing his job, an unforgiving Steve orders him to get out of his cell. Althea and John are both having a sleepless night because of the situation with Edna. John is bored with the subject and insists he wants to like Mrs. Hamilton, but she has to reciprocate. Later, Althea goes to have breakfast with her mother. Edna says that she does like John; however, she feels that Althea is trying to "sell" him to her. She argues that they have to earn one another's love. Matt brings Steve an update on Carolee and the baby. He's stunned to learn that DA Harrigan hasn't been swayed by the Dan's journal.
