Maggie informs Matt of the blow-up between Nick and Althea, but considering their past history, Matt fairly dismisses it as a temporary situation. However, Maggie then relates how upset Althea became after Nick's hostility turned to physical aggression with Nick, pulling him out of the wheelchair and demanding that he walk. Maggie urges Matt to intercede by talking to Nick and helping see things from Althea and John's perspective. After catching glimpse of Althea, Martha realizes that something terribly wrong. She goes to Nick and tells him that they shouldn't throw away what they have together because of a disagreement. Carolee tells Steve that she was embarrassed by his talk with Mona over her favoritism toward Erich. Matt phones Nick, who doesn't answer the phone because he's distracted by thoughts of the fight with Althea. After remembering that Althea called him a monster, Nick picks up the phone and calls Cathy. He wants to see her right away to discuss marriage.
