Partaking in some hijinks believing they are alone at the station during Venus' shift early in the evening, Andy and Venus are caught off guard by what is to them a surprise visit by Mother Carlson, who has arrived to meet with who seems to be her absent son, he probably forgetting about their appointment. With time to kill and catching them in a potential mistruth, Mother Carlson asks to hear the story about about how Andy came to hire "Gordon Sims" and how he morphed into "Venus Flytrap", which may be different than what Andy and Venus had told her four years ago.

This episode was intended to reconcile the various aspects of Venus Flytrap's background. Great care was taken to show the characters wearing the same costumes they were wearing in the first episode
The flashback scene where Mama Carlson is introduced to Venus Flytrap appeared in the series pilot episode, but with Sylvia Sidney in the role of Mama Carlson. The scene was re-shot for this episode with Carol Bruce as Mama Carlson.
Andy quotes several lines from the WKRP theme song when he's telling Mother Carlson the reasons why he took the job at WKRP.
In addition to the scenes with Mrs. Carlson being reshot from the original pilot, Johnny's epic format change scene was also reshot in order to reflect the change in the station's power output from the pilot's 50,000 watts to the more reasonable 5,000 watts.
