In the "Aesop and Son" segment ("The Chicken and the Ducks"), the chicken freezes in his coop during the winter, while the ducks fly south to warmer climes. The shivering chicken (voiced by Daws Butler) remarks, "Now I know what Admiral Byrd must have felt like."
Rear Admiral Richard E. Byrd was a U.S. Naval officer famous as an aviator and an Arctic/Antarctic explorer. In 1926, Byrd and Floyd Bennett became national heroes after claiming to have flown over the North Pole (a claim that has since been disputed). From 1928 to 1930, Byrd led an Antarctic expedition that included the first flight over the South Pole. Byrd returned to Antarctica for further expeditions in 1934, 1939, 1946, and 1955.
