Many fans might think the enormous Gaius rock mountain, which appears in the beginning of the film, was a filmed in a far away desert or quarry. The truth is, it was shot in the middle of Van Nuys, CA in the ruins of a demolished office building. A month after principal photography wrapped, the rocks were taken away. It's now a vacant lot.
