In Search Of... "Nostradamus" (1981)

Henry II of France, the 1666 Great Fire of London, the French Revolution and Hitler. Did Nostradamus predict all of these events and many more? And if so, what gave him the ability to predict so many things? Those are two of the questions asked in this entertaining episode that takes a look at the legendary figure. The episode is certainly an entertaining one that tends to push the belief that Nostradamus was able to predict the future. Personally speaking, the majority of the examples given here could be viewed either way so like most documentaries on the subject the verdict will be up to the viewer.

The familiar topic of Nostradamus, the famous doctor and quatrain writer/future predictor is finally taken on, with mostly interesting results. Nostradamus lived in a time where the church held dominance, and looked at any psychic or fortune-telling powers with suspicion, and possible trial and execution, so he had to be careful in writing his predictions as quatrains, though the trouble is that, as skeptics point out, the writings are so vague and unspecified that they have little meaning or credibility, and are open to wide interpretation, making them ultimately pointless, though his followers insist on their accuracy. His name lives on regardless...

In Search of Nostradamus is a compelling topic. The viewer, like myself, who knows nothing will find the first half interesting. Who Nostradamus was, and the prophecies. Regrettably the Nostradamus episode repetitively divulges into narration over old war clips, interviews, and speculation. The nah sayers counter Nostradamus as vague and could mean anything prediction. Leonard Nimoy rarely takes side on In search of topic giving a damming opinion of the Nostradamus prophecies! Calls the prophecies open to many interpretations, people see what they want to see, people creating self pro-filling prophecies and open to too many interpretations. Nimoy, this time, has it right the anti-prophecies sides argument of how one prediction could represent many historical events was strong, tho I found the whole topic creepy. A going threw the motions final season episode; one of the easier and fast episode to make. Running out of ideas in the final season.
