Remake of the hit 1960's "Supermarionation" television show. In the 21st century, Jeff Tracy, a former astronaut, amasses a colossal fortune and decides that he must use it to benefit others. His answer to this desire is to create International Rescue, a unique private emergency response service equipped with customized designed vehicles and equipment that enable the organization to react to any crisis whether it be in sea, air, land, or space. Jeff's five sons volunteer to operate as the pilots and field agents, as well as "Brains" (real name unknown) who acts as the teams' technical developer and engineer. In addition, Jeff's friend, Kyrano and his daughter Tanusha aka Kayo (based on the original series Tin-Tin character) agree to be the support staff. The "5-4-3-2-1 - Thunderbirds are GO!" countdown voiceover is audio from the late Peter Dyneley, the voice of Jeff Tracy in the original Thunderbirds puppet series.
Kayo is actually Tin Tin. The creators had to rename her Kayo as the name Tin Tin is copyright protected by The Adventures of Tin-Tin.
Jeff Tracy does not appear in the series. Tin-Tin is now named Kayo. Brains has a much less pronounced stutter than in the original series. The Thunderbirds uniforms no longer include hats.
As a homage to the original series, you can see an orange juicer on the wall, in the launch room for Thunderbird 1.
David Graham reprised his role as Parker from Thunderbirds (1965).
Unlike the original 1965 series, International Rescue do not use guns in this remake as they're meant to save lives and not take them.
During the credits at the end of each episode, one of the pictures shows an artists sketch of the Tracy Island lounge, but with the five portraits from the original 1960s series on the wall instead of the new portraits.
The series premiers 11 years after the 2004 feature film and 50 years after the original series premiered in 1965.
There are plenty of glimpses where Alan Tracy appears to have a crush on Kayo, while in the original 1960s series he has a crush on Tin-Tin (whom Kayo is based on).
An average Thunderbirds Are Go episode will take a year and a half to go from the script outline stage all the way through to being ready to broadcast.
When the first Thunderbird One launch scene was filmed, two crew members had to get underneath the set and slide the swimming pool back. It took three attempts before they could do it without splashing water everywhere.
It takes 110 people to make an episode of Thunderbirds Are Go. Pukeko Pictures manages roughly 12 miniature crew, 9 shoot crew and 65 production staff.

The model of Thunderbirds Three and One's hangars used an extractor fan tube for Thunderbird Three's launch tube, and "Kinder Surprise" egg cases at the base of Thunderbird One's platform, because they looked good painted.
The Tracy Island model has 3000 trees.
Facts about the Tracy Family:
- Scott is the eldest and most experienced Tracy brother and he is bold and fearless in action. He is also the team leader.
- Virgil is calm and level headed and is also the peacemaker the family. He is the largest and strongest of the Tracy Brothers and skilled in engineering mechanics.
- John is known to be exceedingly patient, kindly and gracious possessed of both great intelligence and poise as gifts inherited from his talented mother.
- Of all the family, Gordon is the funny one, which gives him a tendency to get into trouble.
- Alan is the youngest brother, but the most naturally gifted pilot. He also enjoys playing video games, watching old Kung Fu movies and poking around in Brains' lab.
The water around the island was colored by ten liters of blue food coloring.
There's a trapdoor behind the piano that can be opened up to allow a lipstick camera to pass through for a different filming angle.
At the base of Thunderbird One and Two's launch platforms there are round fire extinguishers. These, partly as a nod to the original show, are made from animatronic eyeballs.
The names of the Tracy brothers were inspired by some of the "Mercury Seven," a team of NASA astronauts in the early 1960s Scott Carpenter, Gordon Cooper, Virgil "Gus" Grissom, John Glenn and Alan Shepard.
Lady Penelope lives in the Creighton-Ward Mansion in Foxley Heath. There is a sculpture of Sherbert in Lady Penelope's mansion which has a nose that lights up blue when Lady Penelope is called.
Parkers' full name is Aloysius Parker and he is 52 years old.
Brains' real name is Hiram K Hackenbacker.
The model set of Tracy Villa is built in move-able segments to make filming scenes easier.
There were 7 main vehicles and 43 secondary vehicles in series 1 of Thunderbirds Are Go.
Facts about the Thunderbirds machines:
- Thunderbird 1 travels at a maximum altitude of 150,000 feet and is one of the fastest rockets in existence, meaning that it can reach anywhere in the world within an hour.
- Created by Brains for auxiliary equipment transport, Thunderbird 2 can travel at a top speed of 5,000 mph and maximum altitude of 75,000 feet.
- Thunderbird 3 is a single-stage-to-orbit (SSTO) rocket was designed to reach radical air speeds of up to 18,000 mph.
- Thunderbird 4 is a small but technologically advanced submarine. Built by Brains for underwater rescue missions, the vehicle can travel at a speed of 160 knots.
- Thunderbird 5 is a geostationary orbital space station located 22,400 miles over Tracy Island. Thunderbird 5 is International Rescue's communication and logistics hub and scans for potential threats and emergencies.
The famous palm trees on Tracy Island are made up of screws and palm fronds.
A smoke machine is used to create the smoke at launch.
200 3D environments have been made for the show.
Brains' favourite subjects are Trigonometry and Thermodynamics.
In episode one when Thunderbird 3 stops the satellite rotation... TV service is restored at 3-03 and Thunderbird 5 says "Well done Alan, I almost missed my favourite show." On his 3D holographic device in front of him there is a sequence from Gerry Anderson's Stingray. Later in the same episode Thunderbird 4 and 2 are involved in rescuing the crew from an underwater research lab. The 3D model of the lab utilises a universal cockpit design as used on the Eagles in Gerry Anderson's Space 1999.
