There is nothing about this episode that wasn't hilarious.

Summary: Mitchell answers the door one day to find his mom standing there. She mentions an "incident" which turns out to be her getting drunk at Jay & Gloria's wedding and ruining the whole thing. She uses Mitchell to help apologize.

This is the first episode of Modern Family I ever saw. And I still think it's the funniest ever. It's a great introduction to Dylan, and this is one episode where I actually could put up with Haley. The way this episode plays out is the best, especially the song at the end (if you've seen this, you know what I'm talking about). If you like this show but haven't seen "The Incident", then go onto ABC.com, and GO SEE THIS EPISODE RIGHT NOW! You will love it. That's a guarantee. 10/10

Jay's former wife, DeDe Pritchett, reappears in the lives of the three families. It is not a welcome sight, as anyone can imagine, what with the famous "incident" she caused at Jay and Gloria's wedding. One would think she would stay away from her former husband and her children. DeDe has been living in Sedona, where she has joined the world of the New Age style of living in all its intensive energies. Another reason for showing up is that she will be moving to a foreign country, where English is not spoken: French Canada! She wants to see these folks again.

The most affected by DeDe's presence is Gloria who feels Jay's former wife ruined her wedding reception. She wants to be as far away from her, as possible. Cam and Mitch are not happy about DeDe's visit either, and Claire, while impartial, has not too many fond memories from her flaky mother.

Haley wants to attend a concert with her new boyfriend, Dylan. Claire is not totally convinced about letting the teenager go by herself. Phil remembers fondly his days as a teen, himself, while at the same time, as a parent, he has doubts it will be a good experience for his daughter. Haley, who invited Dylan over, so he can reassure the parents, offers to sing a song he has composed especially for her. As he belts it, the whole family listens with dread the lyrics he has written. Dylan could have not been more explicit about his intentions with Haley.

Directed by Jason Winer and based on a screenplay by Steven Levitan, one of the creators for the series, this episode proves to be delightful as the old wife makes another entrance in the lives she left behind. Shelley Long proves up to the task for making DeDe the unevolved person she really is, in spite of the Sedona type of energy she has been soaking in. Reid Ewing as Dylan has a great moment singing his torrid tribute to the girl he loves.

I think this episode is the best and most hilarious episode of the series so far I mean come on , watch it then you will agree with me more because the moment this episode begins the more funny things will begin too and go download this episode by torrent or by whatever just download it because I guarantee you won't be regretted and also for those who have watched Cheers in the 80s will like this episode even more because Shelley Long have guest starred in it as DeDe Pritchett and her performance was praised by critics and in my opinion this episode should be nominated for Emmy for outstanding directing episode because it was unbelievably incredible and the song that Dylan was singing with his guitar was good and funny too . I'd give the episode 9.8/10 .

'Cheers' legend, Shelley Long guests here as Jay's ex wife, who is looking to repair the damage after making a scene at his wedding to Gloria. Long gives a great performance, and it's lovely to see her.

It was nice to see all the characters interacting with each other in this episode, which had lots of funny moments.

The best bit for me was the song that Hayley's boyfriend sang for her, which was as inappropriate as you can get.

'Modern Family' has its heart in the right place, and his finding a consistency between episodes which is pleasing.
