Inshallah, Kashmir (2012) Online

Testimonies of ordinary Kashmiris recount a brutal militancy and its terrible response. Dodging agents of Indian armed-forces, the filmmakers were able to obtain rare testimonials in the highest militarized zone in the world. The film tells how freedom is conceded and replaced by fear, governance by institutionalized oppression and a paradise made desolate on the watch of India : a secular, democratic republic.

The director takes us through a wide variety of experiences in Kashmir that flirts extensively with the idea of Indian Military Occupation of Kashmir. It conveniently leaves aside the Pandit exodus(other than a fleeting meeting with a young Kashmiri Pandit). It even goes to promote the idea that the militants were 'innocent' chaps. Well, that's how Nazis looked when they slept, didn't they. It also promotes the idea of Kashmiriyat and how it means secularism and brotherhood(that flourishes with its almost entire minority in refugee camps for 2 decades!). It mentions the peaceful spread of Islam(perhaps not aware of Sikandar the iconoclast). This is music to the Islamist fascists and anathema to any self respecting human on earth. This undoubtedly talented and fearless director can surely portray even the Germans as only the victims and the anti Nazi coalition an enemy of humanity. Bravo!

Be it the saddening tale of a mother whose son is missing after being picked up by armed forces , or the kashmiri pandit families that suffered a cultural uprooting ,exodus and many killings or a whole generation of kashmiri youth lost to the gun be it by bearing it or being gunned down or caught in the cross fire , kashmir is a sad sad tale depicted by the film maker very aesthetically in this documentary . Set in the backdrop of the beautiful valley with heart wrenching tales told by the victims themselves it certainly hits the chords. Though not showing both sides of the coin as some would say , it does bring you pretty close to what a common man underwent during all these years of the KASHMIR CONFLICT. A must watch i would say .

This is a piece of propaganda. One side against another. So absorbed are the makers of this documentary to demonize "the others" they ignore China. They talk about freedom, about Kashmir, yet the Chinese part is irrelevant. This is actually an extension of the bloody mindless fights between Muslims and Hindu that led to the Partition.
