Not actually a TV movie, but a pilot made for Amazon that was not picked up to series.

The police officer stuck in the elevator states code '1013' on her radio (officer requesting assistance). 1013 is also the birthday of the shows creator Chris Carter and the name of his production company (Ten Thirteen Productions)

I found the pilot to be fast-paced and riveting. Instead of over analyzing it, like the previous commenter, I just sat back and enjoyed the ride. By the end of the episode, I was completely captivated. The characters are well drawn and diverse enough to offer just the right amount of conflict. In short order I felt close to and invested in each of them. I was drawn into and wanted to know the rest of the story. The concept is intriguing and mysterious. I would like to follow the storyline to its conclusion. I was excited to see that Chris Carter was involved and I wasn't disappointed. This definitely has his quintessence and gives evidence that he's in rare form. At the very least, if the show doesn't make it in video format, I hope the story is continued in print as a series of books. I would gladly pay the going rate to find out how this ends.

I just watched the pilot of the series and I was very surprised..I had low expectations since I read somewhere that this was an Amazon production and that so far not big channels were interested to show it. But I can say that I enjoyed it a lot..it was really well done made..the story has a lot of mystery,(something you expect from the creator of X-files) and the characters are very interesting. This show has very big potential to be a great mystery/thriller big hit of the year..It reminds you a little bit Walking dead/ Lost/ X- files..I really hope they will get a whole season and see more what is going to happen with the "breakout" ..Well done John Carter.

Confusion is the game, and this one we will all play. Do you miss Lost? Do you miss that feeling of not ever really having any clue as to what was going on, and knowing that something really cool was always about to happen? Well then here is your missing piece. The Pilot so far has completely impressed me, there are little bits of so many other disaster/mystery/confusion type shows from around the world thrown together here, and there are some pretty big holes in the story already, but that just kind of made what they did give you seem to kind of make more sense. The cast is also really surprising, and the writers are going to have a lot of work on their hands trying to keep the momentum from that first episode.I recommend that this show be one that you look high, and low for, or just go look to Amazon, but you will be glad you did.

Absolutely loved The After! Gigi Generau is a French actress in America and after going to her latest audition she and a group of other random people get stuck in a lift. They eventually manage to escape the lift only to find they are locked in a parking lot with all doors and gates locked. With the help of an escaped murderer Gigi manages to slide under the parking lot gate to find the city has ground to a halt with electricity and all other utilities no longer working and thousands of other people in the streets. With nobody knowing what has happened Gigi gets back to her hotel room and fills her suitcases with food and drink and returns to the parking lot. As she arrives back the escaped prisoner also comes back with a fire engine and bolt cutters to free the rest of the group.

One of the group is a rich old lady so the group make their way back to her house. While at the house the group realise they all share the same birthday! Chaos ensues when a group of criminals come to the house intent on stealing the old lady's money and the escaped prisoner shoots one of these criminals and they all run for their lives. When they reach the forest everything changes when the escaped prisoner shoots a creature.

I don't want to give much more away and ruin things for those who haven't watched it but The After is a cross between X Files and Lost with a fantastic story which you'll find yourself gagging to know more! I was on the edge of my seat all the way through and really hope this gets picked up for a full season. I didn't see the twist coming at the end at all, I was thinking it was more apocalyptic so the twist at the end was a complete surprise.

I'd pay to see this so PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make a full season!!

I have watched the first show and I'm HOOKED! What my question is.......... When is Amazon going to pick up the rest of the season or is there another place I can watch this show. I seen where it said it's starting in February of 2014 on Syfi and I am yet to see it. Can anyone help me out where the rest of the season(s) are at? I have looked on Netflix come back to amazon prime one a week to see if it's bed hooked up and even checked my Syfi channel on direct TV weekly.

Any help I can get from any one I will be very grateful. I love theses types of movies and by the looks of the first movie this one is not going to be a let down. Many thanks to anyone who can answer this question for me in advance!

The new Amazon original pilot for "The after" is out now. I don't know whether the show will get a green signal or not but I certainly hope it does. The X-files creator Chris Carter is the creator of this show. The Pilot is really intriguing..acting department requires polishing. The story has not been revealed much or I should say the Plot hasn't Been revealed much Till the last 15 minutes of the show.Build-up is pretty Good and the "creature" is really creepy.Expect this show to have high Skin quotient, violence, gore and whatever MA is certified for. Give this one a try U will surely enjoy it. Highly recommended for its plot, screenplay and direction.

For months "X-Files" fans have been talking up a storm on the internet about Chris Carter's return to television with a new show called: "The After". Unfortunately he choose to align the TV series with Amazon, who are famous for bad pilot episodes anyone else remember the Zombie Land pilot episode? *Cringes* For those of you who do not know Chris Carter, he was the golden boy of 90′s television after creating The X Files franchise which instantly became a cult classic. He never really delivered another show to equal that of the X Files, he came pretty close with crime drama Millennium. But even that only truly became popular after the series was finished.

"The After" begins right at the very moment the apocalypse hits earth. By apparent manipulated circumstance, a group of eight strangers with the exact same birth dates are thrown together when the power goes out in their building. The group consists of a gay clown, a tough Latina policewoman, a French bombshell, a drunk Irishman, and a rich old white lady. Which really does sound like the start of a very bad joke And being ignorant human beings they are they think that they are the only ones affected by this "power outage" They then try to break out of an underground parkade, only to discover that there is far more wrong with the world than just a simple power outage..

The pilot episode of "The After" is exactly what you would expect from any apocalypse themed drama. Mass chaos everywhere, the police have lost control of the situation obviously. There are people everywhere trying to get out of the city and no one really knows what's going on, including us the viewers which I really loved as they only really revealed some of the key plot elements during the last few minutes of the show. The first episode of the show plays its cards closely too its chest which caused me to scream out in frustration multiple times because I wanted to know what type of apocalypse has befallen our characters and fictional world.

During the course of the episode Chris Carter throws in the suggestion that the supernatural is at play and though some of it feels a bit rushed in the plot episode, the closing scene feels like something strait out of an X Files episode, it's reminiscent of a really great opening for an "X-Files" episode. I really want this show to succeed. Chris Carter has provided some solid entertainment in the past, and X Files had a few really iconic/classic standalone episodes. With good all round performances, and a suggestion that the show is headed in some dark and interesting directions will keep me watching for now. So let's see were this show goes hopefully not the same direction as the Zombie Land pilot.

First thing I noticed (and something I've seen other reviewers mention) is the writing and dialog seem a little too formulaic and contrived. But if you stick it out through the first episode I guarantee it's worth it. I was afraid that this show was going to be a little too similar to Revolution or Lost, but it's definitely going to be able to hold its own. What sparked my interest in checking this show out was that it was created by Chris Carter who also did The X-Files--one of my all time favorite shows. If you're a fan of The X-Files, too, then you MUST watch The After. It may not seem to hold up just quite yet too it's sister show, but if Amazon airs an entire first season The After may wind up surprising us. Amazon would be foolish to not pick this show up for a full season.

I can really recommend this show to everyone, but especially to people who like the Sci-Fi genre. When you want to see the show, you better be sure that you will have the time for it. This isn't a show that is finished after regular time. You'll have to be able to stay focused during 54 minutes, which will certainly not be easy during the first times. Some scenes at the beginning only make sense when you have seen the end of the show. But when you are able to stay focused, you'll find this one of the two best TV show you've ever seen. Chris Carter is the best.

I certainly did and I rewarded it with a well deserved 10/10.

The first pilot episode took a while to gather any steam, and for the first half hour I thought I was watching a Student Drama Production, with every single character cliché over exaggerated as if the show was just trying "too hard" to prove the contrast between the characters.

It's a bit like the show is constantly screaming 'these people would never be friends in real life, but look, they're banding together regardless!'. It feels frustrating and a bit unnatural. Almost like the script is patronising the viewer, as if we wouldn't be able to decipher subtle details and personalities.

However, it's the pilot, so we'll see how the character development becomes a little more refined and mature.

As for the production quality, it's pretty good and comparable to any regular TV sci-fi series. There's some recognisable faces, enough for familiarity (even if all the known actors are playing the same typecast roles that you've always seen them in).

There was just enough action, mystery and sci-fi to keep me intrigued, though I do hope the level of sci-fi will get upped in future episodes. Right now it feels a little bit too subtle, reminiscent of some of the old X-files episodes that ended up feeling a bit too 'regular'.

The surprise right at the end of the pilot was pretty awesome. It shows promise for where the series could go!

So, great potential in the concept and clearly a well budgeted show. However, stereotypical cliché characters leaves you 'tutting' and finding the dialogue quite patronising.

How many times have we seen TV series like this showing up, blooming and fading away for this or that reason. Some of them far better than this pilot, e.g., Flashforward, Day Break, and Lost (a tremendously good series with a ludicrous last episode). This one has ingredients but no sauce. There are many little things that might get us connected to the characters but it's all so cliché in this kind of ramification that apart from very bored teenagers, I don't think anyone will actually waste time on a series where: 1) The chaos is poorly portrayed and usually rests in people moving randomly through the scenario; 2) The typical choice of characters is such a cliché that hurts; I mean, the criminal who is actually innocent and just wants to do good, the mum that is quite sexy and just wants to find her family, the drunken Irish (why is it always the Irish people that are portrayed us drunk people?), the police officer who sticks to the role regardless of the evident total loss of order, the fit chick, the old lady and the gay dude. Boriiiing! 3) But what actually kills me is the alien who got shot, nearly died, open his red eyes after minutes laying on the ground and waltz off just like the girl in the classic Exorcist.

For god's sake, stop it. I won't bite it.
Danrad

Hardly anything the characters do make any sense.

  • Oh, that guy's been shot in the gut... should we help him? Stop the bleeding maybe? Nah, it's a gut wound... he's already dead... because apparently we live in the 1800s and this is now the wild west????

  • Let's escape out of the city, and I'll hang onto the back of this ambulance for NO REASON AT ALL!

  • I'm so stressed out about the power outages and panicked people. Guess it's time to get naked and swim in a pool.

And how the characters overcome obstacles seems miraculous sometimes.

  • Large crowd of people surrounding my ambulance, well, just hit the gas pedal and look! They're all gone now!

The writing is just lazy. I want the show to continue and I want to find out what's going on. However, if the writing continues to be this bad, then it doesn't bode well that the reveal will be anything special.

Warning: very small spoiler: it's really hard for me to watch shows like this where they get eight of the stupidest people you could possibly find and put them together. Can just once they write a show with some halfway intelligent people who have a clue in a situation like this? As soon as the cop gave up her gun to the gangster I turned it off. Just once I'd like to see a strong intelligent cop who isn't a complete idiot like the one in this show or the one in The Dome. In a real SHTF situation, all 8 of these morons will be dead within three days. Why does every script have to be the same as the others. Let's get a bunch of complete morons together that for some reason don't die within the first 24 hours. And can someone write a script without every single stereotype represented in the cast? Just once can someone do this? Ugh!!!!!!! This show is about as original as scrambled eggs.

I had high hopes for this show but now I see why the X-Files producer Chris Carter kept it under such tight wraps. There was very little substance to the show to reveal. My first impression was of a bad Stephen King movie where several people are wondering around trying to figure out what the heck is going on with all these strange occurrences. It starts with a main character having a dream or premonition of things that are about to come to pass but they are fleeting and you can't really tell what's going on because they go by so fast. Then she goes to her car where about eight people are trapped in an underground garage including herself because all the doorways and exits are locked. Are they in hell? There is a police officer and two criminals to create tension I guess which starts a feud. They argue between themselves for what seems an eternity while an older lady gets weak and passes out from her lack of food due to diabetes thereby breaking up the endless fight. Two finally escape the underground garage by using a car jack to lift up the mesh gates and they go outside to see chaos with thousands of people aimlessly running around in the streets. We hear what sounds like explosions but they don't show where they're coming from. Then two helicopters crash into each other for no apparent reason other than to liven up the action I suppose. Still no clue as to what's going on. One of the trapped people who escaped hijacks an ambulance and comes back to rescue the rest of the hapless bunch. They drive to the older ladies house and take refuge there. Some Mexican bandits drive up and try to rob them which in turn makes them run into the forest. One character falls and breaks his leg. They hear a noise in the woods and come upon what could be described as either an alien or a demon. It speaks in what sounds to be original Latin and then bends its limbs backwards so that it can walk on its back upside down then scurries into the woods. So we're left wondering, are these demons because they've all died and are in the "After"life (or purgatory) or are they aliens who've come to invade?!?! I love a good mystery but it seems as though the creators are trying to purposefully trick the audience into watching more episodes to find out. Man, I hate when writers insult the intelligence of the audience like that. The acting was bad, the production felt cheap and the writing was horrible. When I heard the whistling incorporated into the background music it reminded me of some of the worst x-file episodes over the years. It sent a shiver down my spine and made me cringe. If you value quality and substance then this show isn't for you.

Writing/acting/visual effects/storyline/direction are really bad, so bad it makes you say "why the hell did that happens"?! The nude scene, the old lady being named the old lady in front of her, The funny space dude, the panic in the street caused by what??! Its not a zombie attack! Why the hell is it so obvious to come back for a phone?! What's with the excessive fail language of the British dude, the panic in being stuck in a garage, the only one police car that's in there while the police is on a manhunt, why is there a manhunt and everything is as usual in the building and so much more! Every scene is special!

If it will keep up being so bad it will be a cult TV shows for years to come. Can't wait for the next episode.

I really can't believe you guys spent money on this. Its pretty sad when the walk on actors in the background give a better performance than the main actors. The background actors are pretty bad though as well. The main character has the worst french accent i have ever heard. A clown are you serious? That has to be the most helpful Convict I have ever seen. I know when the apocalypse happens I want to go to the rich old ladies house... oh wait i'll just go back to my house because its just the power being out. oh hi people I just met come to my house and take off all your clothes and jump in my pool. Why are people just walking around in circles during the apocalypse? I can't take anyone's fake accent throughout the entire show. What is the deal with the birthday near the end? Why would I even care and how would that even be important? Worst plot, worst acting, worst background acting. Please don't make this show. Just stop.

I saw the first episode and gave it 2/10 , the plot ,the story ,the directing is bad it just don't make any sense at all ,the acting is not that good , there was a lot of holes in the plot, i mean when the door fell on Francis leg how could she walk after that like nothing happened ?!! why the people aren't in there cars driving away instead of that just running around ??! why is the ambulance is the only vehicle that's working in that area ?? why did two helicopters craaash with noo reason ??!! there is no realistic in this, I was really bored and confused nothing pulled me into the zone of ( interesting ) even that blue freak man , gave it 2/10 because of the idea and because of Adrian Pasdar i love him and love his acting but this is just not worth watching and they could do better with this type of story but they missed up.

Dumbed-down viewing and enough bad language to make me cringe caused me stop watching part of the way through out of sheer irritation. OK, an early example: some character are stuck in an underground car park with the door to the stairs locked, the power out to the lifts and a metal mesh fence locking down the vehicle exit. Our resident Einsteins are completely stumped as to how to get out... because they are all so terminally stupid that they don't just start up a vehicle and ram the fence blocking the vehicle exit? Doh, two of the characters actually had keys to vehicles parked there! Basically, too stupid a show for me to continue watching.

Needs to be renamed Milling, Milling, Milling. The extras are fun to watch. This group doesn't have a survival thought in its collective brain. Post 9/11 & Katrina survivors should have been consulted by the writers. Don't waste time watching this. Where are the HAM operators who generate their own power for communication. Obviously the vehicle engines work, why us no one on the road? Where are the traffic jams? The group is stuck in a garage with all those cars available, they don't use the multiple jacks to raise the gate? The "lawyer" stands talking with the fridge door open, knowing the power is out. Is he stupid? The whore contaminates the only drinking water? How did the clown get so much makeup off without running water? This show was done better by Twilight Zone in the '60's, watch it instead. Please Amazon don't pick this up as your original series!

This show leaves the watcher wanting more. I wanted to keep going at the end and upset when no more were to be watched. The Show may seem a little bit weird but think of who is involved. There is many aspects of of the show that grab the viewer attention to ask the question why (detail) was focused on. i am looking forward to seeing what is going on and even though I am not tired of Zombies or Aliens or Dooms Day story- lines, I am hoping that this is a different tale. And I have a feeling that it is. I did not feel comfortable with the direction when looking at the end but once the credits started rolling and I had some clues on where this might be heading I was thinking this may be interesting.

The show had great potential, unfortunately they did a horrible job. In the main group of survivors they have - a hooker, an black escaped prisoner(innocent of all charges of course), an Hispanic female cop, a lawyer, an actress (a terrible one at that), a rich old white woman, an abusive alcoholic Irish man, and to top it off, a gay clown.

Of course they bicker amongst themselves constantly, much like Walking Dead. I'm not quite sure why all writers think that the end of the world scenarios will bring out the worst in people.

Maybe they should start from scratch with a bit more imagination. The actors could've phoned it in, they did such a bad job.

Stylewise this is not your usual Chris Carter fare. This is a very modern looking story, it looks like Chris has not lost his knack for creating TV shows that fit right into the times.

The millennium has come and gone. Or has it? This story is a typical day in a woman's life, that turns strange in one second.

In this pilot one of the characters makes a conjecture about what the end times really will be like. Have we really read the book of Revelation and considered what it really says in there?

Because if we really have read it, then we really should be scared. But should we be scared about supernatural entities, aliens and other Chris Carter phenomena, or should we be scared of each other?

In this bloodcurdling pilot, it shows that we should be worried about both. Some people think evil comes from the devil himself, other people think that evil comes from man. Maybe both statements are true and maybe both are false.

"The after" explores this question and keeps us asking more questions until the very last scene. Interestingly, the show was created by Amazon.com which I've never heard of creating entertainment like this, I don't know if this is a web-only show or if this is going to be shown on any channels. But, I like it and I really want to see more.

One thing to look for is imagery from Chris Carter's show "millennium".

If you liked the Blair witch project than maybe you would like this. There is useless bickering, characters not getting along for no reason, etc. They try to get out of the garage as if it's critical with no reason.People mill about for no reason and attack the ambulance for no reason. The only reason I watched to the end was to see if they offered an explanation at the end. Nope. The gang bangers attack and everyone runs away with no reason. This could be the worst pilot of all time. Of course, many of you voted for Obama Care so, maybe this will become a long running series. God bless the stupid people because the rest of us wont. Long live stupid because you can't fix stupid so embrace it. This pilot is where pilots come to die. DIE. DIE!.
Larosa

I tried really hard to like this as I love Alpha House & Betas and really liked Transparent. Amazon is doing some great things with their original content, but I have no idea how this got a pilot.

There is no structure, bad edits, nudity and cursing thrown in for no reason. Don't get me wrong, I like nudity and cursing, but they need to have a purpose in the script or be used sparingly to have a shock effect. When every 3rd word is F###ing and there are just a random pair of breasts in a scene that feels completely out of place to the rest of the "story" it just takes you out of the moment.

The lazy writing and ethnic stereotypes are worse than most, I almost felt this was a satire at times with the overblown Real World does the Apocalypse vibe thru out the show. The drunk cursing Irish man, the French model, the Latino Cop, the gay clown (yes a clown), the rich old white lady and the black thug prison escapee who has to tell us how the prison system only works if it has black men to destroy.

This was a pure disappointment, I gave it 3 stars for the idea this could have been, but bad acting, writing and storytelling leave it a mess that I regret watching.

Lousy script. Lackluster direction. And the French girl in the lead can't act (when I can understand what she's saying). About a SyFy level production. Carter spent all his money on the crowd scene and it shows: first we're trapped in an elevator, then a garage (for 15 minutes? What a waste of pages), then we get shuffled off to a mansion as home base because that means closed set and no location shoots required. And the crowd scene is so badly directed, it looks like a bunch of well-dressed people at Century City out for a lunch break wandering around looking for a food truck. There's no real sense of panic and nobody seems in a hurry to get anywhere except to walk in front of the camera. Silly.
