Murder being once done must stand as one of the best Ruth Rendell Mysteries, it has so much going on, Reg is feeling sorry for himself after his illness, and proving to be somewhat of a nuisance to all those around him, but the dogged Detective that he is refuses to give up work.

Some wonderfully rich scenes, the best being where the normally gruff Wexford shares a terrific, tender moment with the elderly blind lady Mrs Lyell, it's such a sweet, moving scene, Constance Chapman well remembered for playing Elsie Partridge in Only Fools and Horses.

It surprises me that neither ITV nor The BBC have decided to reinterpret these stories for a modern day audience, the demand for Agatha Christie's work is still there, Ruth Rendell was very much along the same lines, imagine how well a story like Murder being once done would translate nowadays?

Please someone have the sense to bring these wonderful novels back to life. 9/10
