The tapestry of our American heritage contains fibers drawn together from all regions of the world. Andrew Kotliar's Kinofilm Project, housed in the Ukranian League in the Fairmount section of Philadelphia, marvelously weaves the threads of our past and present with a venue for films with Eastern European themes-themes that touch on the uneasy history of the region, the struggles of the diaspora, and the rhapsody and heartache of building new lives in a foreign land. The Kinofilm Project was founded by Kotliar in 2007 at the urging of Columbia University Slavic languages professor Yuri I. Shevchuk. Kotliar and Shevchuk found considerable interest in multi-cultural films within Philadelphia's vibrant community of Eastern European immigrants and descendants. To date, Kinofilm Project has sponsored six fully-attended screenings.
