During the filming of this episode, Ellie Kemper was pregnant.

During the roller-coaster ride, Lori Ann Schmidt (Lisa Kudrow) told Kimmy (Ellie Kemper) that she was 17 when she had Kimmy. In real life, Lisa Kudrow is about 17 years older than than Ellie Kemper.

When Titus is panicking in the car, he references the Little Mermaid. Tituss Burgess played Sebastian in The Little Mermaid on Broadway in 2007.

There is a real Titusville, Florida, where the space center is the main attraction.

The bus line that is supposed to take Titus to Florida is called "Jerome Bettis Lines". Jerome Bettis was a popular NFL halfback who earned the nickname "the bus" during his tenure.

Lillian sits on her stoop drinking an "Old Spanish," a drink made up of one part red wine and one part tonic water, served with olives. Cooter Burger (Matthew Broderick) made this drink up on an episode of 30 Rock. It was also referenced in an episode of Mad Men. Tina Fey produced and stars in both 30 Rock and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, while Jon Hamm stars in both Mad Men and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.

As Lillian is reading Kimmy's mail, she mentions that "Leah Remini joined Gretchen's church." In a previous episode, Kimmy challenged Gretchen to form her own cult, so Gretchen is clearly recruiting more high-profile followers if she landed celebrity Leah Remini, who in real life has gained notoriety as a member of the Church of Scientology who left the "church" and then repeatedly attempted to expose the organization as a cult that abuses and controls its members.

When a passerby picks up Lillian's Old Spanish can and disposes of it in a recycling bin, she stands silently, looking on as a single tear runs down her cheek. This is a reversal of the popular anti-littering captain of the late 70s that featured a Native American crying as litter was strewn about at his feet. (In an earlier episode, Jacqueline's Native American father also references this commercial, saying he doesn't want to visit New York because "their trash makes me cry.")

"Bobby" Durst makes another appearance, in drag, as "Robertina" Durst. The real Robert Durst posed as a woman named Dorothy Ciner while hiding out during the murder investigation in which he has remained the prime suspect.

In this episode, Ian Roberts has a guest appearance as an astronaut. Roberts often played an astronaut on the show Upright Citizens Brigade (1998), as part of a recurring sub-plot involving prejudice against astronauts.

When Russ Snyder enters Jacqueline's party, he's wearing a women's pantsuit due to his clothes being damaged. In "Arrested Development" (2003), Tobias Fünke regularly wears women's clothing, supposedly unaware they aren't made for men. Both characters are played by David Cross.

The "Kennedy Space Center" Titus walks into was actually filmed in the rotunda to the New York Hall of Science in Queens, NY.

In the season 1 episode "Kimmy Is Bad At Math", Kimmy and Dong make multiple references to the show "Friends." In this episode, Kimmy's mom is played by Lisa Kudrow, who played Phoebe on "Friends."

Great show. Just didn't appreciate in episode 11 of Season 3 The Queens Center Mall in Elmhurst being in "New Jersery" and the area referred to as " bumble dick New Jersey" when it is the most diverse area in the world. Other than that I love the characters and the story lines shown in the series and how the other boroughs shown are better represented.

The first season of this show was mostly pretty funny, and I remember it only being weaker when it needed to do something with the overall narrative. Despite this, it was almost three years before I got around to going back to the second season (in which time it has been renewed several times!). Mostly this was my reservation about the show being funny in the moment but not brilliant as a total package, but also the feeling that it had nothing to do now that the mole-woman thread had been played out. In a way this is sort of true, so what the show decides to do is focus very much on the moments and not so much worry about the bigger threads.

So, as a narrative, there is movement forward but it is done in different character threads, and in broad ways, but without the presence of one big direction or plot. This gives the show a bit less structure but funnily enough it means it can play to what it did best in its first season, which is to deliver funny sub-plots and moments. The writing makes it work, with great lines and ideas kicking around. The cast help it greatly with plenty of talent in the main cast of course, but also a parade of talented and funny famous faces doing cameos and characters. This aspects feels a bit like cheating, but the guests are well used, so hard to complain.

Season 2 is better than the first season, as it seems to know that it is stronger in the moment that in the development. Playing to this produces plenty of laughs, but at the same time makes it feel less of a 'proper' show - which is a shame because there is a lot of good ideas and moments in here; certainly enough for me to return for the third season faster than the years between one and two.
