Ted is on strike and finds himself with not enough to do at home. The problem is between the new union representative, Jack Stubbs, and the managing director but it escalates. The Bullpitts find money is tight so Ted decides to get another job. However, he finds that it is difficult to find a new job with no qualifications. Bruno helps Ted get a job in a restaurant at Rose Hill racecourse, but the job is not quite what he expected. Despite the money problems, Thelma goes shopping and buys herself an engagement ring for their wedding anniversary.
