While Segovax, Agron, Duro and the other recruits talk in their cell, Segovax claims that Spartacus shows the way towards freedom. One of the recruits remarked that he had witnessed the crowd at the arena cheering for the release of a Gladiator who was granted his freedom. However unlikely the possibility, the recruit may have been speaking of Gannicus as he was the only Gladiator from Capua to earn his freedom upon the sands.
This episode marks the first time Spartacus is seen training wearing two shoulder guards, where as the rest of the men wear only one. Though an explanation as to why is never given, it is likely due to his fighting in the style of Dimachaerus (Dual Swords) which leaves both arms unprotected by a shield.
Though Andy Whitfield and Mike Edward (Spartacus & Segovax) had never acted together prior to this show, they both had made appearances on the television show "The Strip."
Lucretia's conversation with Ilythia, after she'd purchased Segovax, carries the first mention of Marcus Crassus in the series. Though his name is continually mentioned throughout this season and on occasion in "Vengeance", the audience does not meet the man until "War of the Damned."
First of many times Duro says "F... Gaul".
