According to Capcom's Seth Killian in an interview with Destructioid.com, "Star Gladiator" was supposed to be a "Star Wars" game.
The game's title "Star Gladiator Episode I: Final Crusade" was a nod to the "Star Wars" films. "Star Gladiator" had originally planned to had been a "Star Wars" game.
Several characters bore some resemblance to the "Star Wars" characters.
