Maria Bello appears as Agent Sloane. In 1999 she appeared in Payback (1999) along with Jack Conley whose NCIS character was killed in the previous episode. His character both times was that of a corrupt police officer.

The motto of the U.S.S. Ewing is "fortis in arduis" which is Latin for "strength in difficulties".

One of the twins says "I've read enough Agatha Christie to know that the simplest explanation is never the right one.". This is true for Agatha Christie's novels. The latter half of the line, though, is a play on Occam's Razor which states that the simplest explanation is usually the right one.

When Sloane shows up at Gibbs' house, pretending not to know who he is, she profiles him and "guesses" that he's a carpenter. Mark Harmon worked as a carpenter before his success in acting, which is reflected in Gibbs' hobby of building boats in his basement.
