This episode was originally to air in November of 1988, to coincide with the presidential election. However due to the writer's strike, production was delayed. And the series had to debut after the presidential election.
Producers decided to let the viewers determine who would be student council president. At the end of the program, viewers were asked to vote by phoning a special 1-900 number for each candidate. The end results (which were revealed in the following episode) had Ivan, the Russian Guy and Chuck winning with 56% of the vote. Tracy Roberts captured 42% and Craig Blumen 2%.
