After making a promise with Hiroshi that he will have the best battle of his life, Satoshi is kidnapped by the Rocket-Dan, who scheme to prevent him from participating in his fifth round match against Hiroshi, let alone steal Pikachu. Satoshi is not about to let the Rocket-Dan make him break the promise he made with Hiroshi, so he is able to eventually escape. However, he loses due to his Lizardon refusing his orders in the final stretch of his battle against Hiroshi. Hiroshi moves on to the quarterfinals.
