While shooting with real Bengal Tigers in LA, producer Abis Rizvi and director Kamal Sadanah worked with a Tigress called 'Shika' who wouldn't perform in front of the camera unless there was Rock music playing in the background! While Asia, another tigress would shoot only in sub-zero conditions! Looks like celebrities aren't the only ones who throw tantrums.
Varinder Ghuman, who plays Cheena in Roar, is a professional body builder weighing around 130 kilos and was one of the winners of the Mr. Asia contest. He had to film a scene in the crocodile infested waters of the Sundarbans with strong currents. The twist: He didn't know how to swim! This sequence is one of the most dangerous scenes ever shot and is one of the highlights of the film which is sure to amaze everyone.
An exotic Canadian belly dancer, an international body building champion, an ex-marine, a 'Survivor' finalist, an Iranian singer-actor, and a South African beauty all come together to form Team Roar.
A team of 150 crew member stayed on 4 ships for 40 days in the Sundarbans, where the nearest habitat was 12 hours away by ship. Equipment was loaded everyday on small boats to shoot in locations never ever stepped on by man.
Actress Himarsha V, who plays Jhumpa the tiger tracker, had to swim in the canal for a particular scene. A few days before the scene was shot the unit had spotted a salt water crocodile in the canal.
The cast and crew of roar spotted fresh tiger pug marks at every location. They knew these were fresh because the tide rises every 6 hours and wipes away the impressions. Hence, seeing these marks that were only a few hours old only meant that tigers were lurking close by.
In the last Scene of the movie, Abis Rizvi [Producer of the movie]and Kamal Sadanah [Director of the Movie]are also shown along with Varinder Singh Ghuman who narrates his story to the kids.
There are no leeches or mosquitoes in the SUNDARBANS as the water bodies there contain salt water.
Sundarbans is the largest mangrove forest in the world with salt water crocodiles, snakes and around 200 tigers as its inhabitants.
A team for aerial photographers were called from Finland under the expertise of Hollywood cinematographer Micheal Watson to capture the glory of the Sundarbans for the first time on commercial cinema.
Producer-Director Duo Abis Rizvi and Kamal Sadanah hand picked each every location for each scene shot in the film. They travelled to the dangerous Sundarbans 3 times to do a proper recce of the area even before the film started.
Each scene was written an entire year in advance. This way the makers were prepared for any challenge that would be thrown their way.
A Tiger marks its territory by spraying Urine which gets washed away in the Sundarbans as the tide rises over 20 ft in 6 hours, submerging around 30% of the land.
A live recording with European musicians was done in Budapest for the background score composed by John Stewart Eduri, which has been complemented by sound design of Oscar winner Resul Pookutty for ROAR-Tigers of the Sundarbans.
Producer Abis Rizvi and Director Kamal Sadanah underwent a visual effects course before filming as there are over 800 VFX shots executed by VFX company Anibrain, which has done VFX work for films like Harry Potter, Resident Evil: Retribution and Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance.
