Yash Chopra wanted Anil Kapoor for Rohan Kapoor's role. But Anil's dates were booked for Jaanbaz.

After making big films with big stars, like Kaala Pathar, Silsila & Mashal, Yash Chopra wanted to make a small love story film with newcomers and in those days some filmakers filmakers were making films with newcomers like Raj Kapoor, Dev Anand, Nasir Hussein, Bappie Sonie, Ramesh Behl and others.

After gap of about 20 years Sunil Dutt and Yash Chopra worked together, the last time they came togjether in Waqt.

Debut film of Farah and Rohan Kapoor.

Dev Anand wanted to cast Farah in one of his film but Farah's mother rejected when Yash Chopra was making Faasle he asked Dev Anand to suggest some names and he suggested Farah's name.

Farah's mother was not ready to allow her to work in films after rejecting Dev Anand's film she also rejected Yash Chopra for Faasle but she was then convinced by Shabana Azmi their close family relative.

Farha had a falling out with the Chopra camp near the end of the film. Farha got involved with Rajesh Sethi, an assistant of Yash Chopra. This didn't go down well with Yash Chopra. Plus director Deepak Sarin who was also an assistant on the film, told Pam Chopra that Farha was involved with Yash Chopra. Deepak had done this due to Farha turning his marriage proposal down. This caused so much trauma to the relationship between Farha and the Chopra's. She was not invited to the film' s trial and saw the film with the public.

Faasle is one of Yash Chopra's weakest films. During the 1980s, Chopra made several films, most of which either flopped or went unnoticed. This one belongs to both categories. It is a meaningless and mostly boring romantic drama. The romance is too typical, exaggerated and uninspiring and the film goes over the top in many sequences. Sunil Dutt's role is that of a typical proud father who does not want to accept his daughter's boyfriend for basically no rhyme or reason. Farha Naaz plays his daughter. She looks good, but overall is not very memorable. Rohan Kapoor is okay as Vijay. Rekha gets a brief role of no significance as Dutt's mistress, and she does the best of it, acting with grace and restraint. The ending is simply bad. The film's saving grace is the lovely soundtrack by Shiv-Hari. Every song is beautifully composed and performed. I particularly liked the title song "Faasle". Otherwise, Faasle is a forgettable movie at best.
