This event hosted the third in a trilogy between Rick Steamboat and Ric Flair over the NWA World Heavyweight title. Their first encounter was at the Chi-Town Rumble show that February, where Steamboat beat Flair for the championship. The second, two months later, at a Clash of the Champions special where Steamboat defeated Flair, two falls to one. All three matches were rated five stars by the Wrestling Observer; the latter - on this show - in particular was cited by many as one of the greatest matches of all time.
