Unemployed and hopeless, Soo-young witnesses a Thai woman named Mai Ratima in danger and helps her out. Having come to Korea through international marriage, Mai is physically and emotionally abused by her husband's family in Korea. Mai and Soo-young fall in love with each other and end up eloping together to Seoul. Their days of happiness are soon shattered, however, when attractive Young-jin seduces Soo-young, and he decides to leave Mai. One day, when life becomes unbearable for Soo-young, he goes to find Mai and finds out that she is not who she used to be.

Ji-tae Yu wrote the synopsis while still at college but it would be another 15 years before the project was finally turned into a movie. Prior to his feature film debut, Yu proved his potential as a director after having helmed several short films (such as Out of My Intention), which were all highly critically praised.
