This has to be one of the best and most honest indie comedies of all time. This is just one of those movies you kind of have to see. I am very biased on the 9 rating i gave this movie. I could have even given it a 10 for I am, the guy always going after the girl I could never have. This movie to me was moving and compelling. Even though it's a fun comedy, some moments even made me stop and think about my own life. The dialog is smart and the movie flows at a great pace. If you haven't seen it yet, do it, and fast: Ricky fully deserves its cult status. It has priceless dialog, wisecracking characters and loads of fun. What else can you ask for?

Ricky was surprisingly fun and heartwarming. I'm not usually a fan of romantic comedies, but this one is so quirky and delightful that I couldn't resist. I love the use of the Rocky theme mixed with Cyrano. Very clever. I really felt for Ricky and Matt Markey is really good in the role. I'll see it again and be sure I have some buddies over to watch with me. The supporting cast was also excellent. Ricky is a character everyone can relate to and we've all been where he is. This film made me smile and laugh and even got me a bit choked up. I can see that it would appeal to the masses and I'm surprised it never was in the major theaters. It should get out there. See this movie, you'll be glad you did!

I found this movie very entertaining. What they lack in big name actors they make up with a big heart. The acting was superb especially from the lead Matt Markey who plays Ricky. He really channeled his inner Rocky to make his character very believable. It's obvious the writer is a huge Rocky fan. John Ruby, who plays Ricky's best friend is very funny. Ernest Heinz who plays Ricky's enemy through out is so good at being a jerk it only helps us root for Ricky more. The rest of the cast is also very good and I'm looking forward to seeing them all in future productions. Anyone who is a fan of underdog type movies like I am will really enjoy this great little love story. I highly recommend.

Ricky is a Great movie about love, with a funny twist! This Rocky lover is a character we can all relate to as well as the story.. At first i was Skeptical about a movie with so many Rocky similarities at first glance. that also is what made me check it out. I am a Rocky fan so i figured let me see. Once i watched this i couldn't believe what a well rounded and funny movie this was.. I completely misjudged it.. Ricky is a person that we can all relate to.we have all been where he was. you'll find yourself cheering for him to succeed in every way. Refreshing for a comedy love story. great twist with the Rocky homage. Don't be fooled its not a Rocky fight movie.but a tale of love life dreams and the underdog. if there is a movie you want to see that will make you laugh , smile and give you some hope ….. This is the one. definitely Two Thumbs Up!! Don't wast any more time. get some dinner and some snacks sit back with someone you love, or wanna love and enjoy this movie.

Ricky is an accomplishment as an independent film. Although working with a low budget, the film achieves it's purpose in delivering a fun romantic comedy with heart. What I like is the unique charm that Matt Markey brings in both his performance as Ricky McDown and his writing style (Markey also penned the screenplay, not too shabby). There are several laugh out loud moments (in a good way) thanks to the wonderful chemistry between Ricky (Markey) and his two best buddies who always impart their wonderfully flawed relationship advice. I do appreciate this story for it's simplicity. It's about a guy who falls for the wrong girl while the right one is standing in front of him the whole time. I can relate to that. Was I entertained by this film? Yes. Do I appreciate what Markey accomplished in making this film? Absolutely. It's worth viewing, if only for the dream sequence homage to the running scene from the original Rocky film. This reviewer's suggestion is...check it out.

Like the Rocky franchise that inspired it, "Ricky" is a movie with an abundance of heart. And while the diminutive Ricky McDown, hero of this parallel tale of the quest for love and self-realization, lacks the physical stature of Rocky Balboa, his biggest muscle – his heart – is always in the right place.

"Ricky" is a first of its kind: a romantic comedy that uses the cultural touchstone of Rocky to propel its storyline. Played by Matt Markey, who conceived, wrote and produced the film, the title character mimics and memorializes the pop icon pug throughout his fight to win the love of Tracy – a symbol of out-of-reach romantic fulfillment and social respectability.

As underdogs go, Ricky is among the most endearing – as sincere as he is vulnerable, with a sensitivity that he counterbalances with a boxing regimen meant to toughen him up for his uphill battle for romantic recognition. While his hero-worship of Rocky provides moral inspiration, his transformation from romantic palooka to contender for Tracy's heart is driven by the unwitting heroine Janie, a boxer whose own heart pounds out a sympathetic beat for Ricky. With Janie as a romantic foil, Ricky acquires the grace and grit to bounce back against Brad, his rival for Tracy's affection.

"Ricky" brings together an able cast whose performances seem to complement and enhance each other, giving the movie a cohesive and credible feel. Filled with laugh-out-loud moments and true-to-life performances, "Ricky" packs an emotional punch.

I'll admit that I'm a sucker for the accent! It talks to me as a native NYer. As a character, Ricky throws a lasso around me and reels me in, from the start! Matt Markey wins me over and keeps me! I adore the "Rocky" connections. They speak to young movie viewer me and continually pull me in closer and deeper to this easy-to-relate story! My husband has always said that he doesn't love a movie until he sees himself in it as one of the characters. I love the Janie character, as I see so much of myself in her - the helpful wingman kind of friend to the guy she should so be with! I laughed again and again! This is a must-see!

I am a sucker for a good romantic comedy. To borrow from boxing terms, this one is a total knock out (TKO). I've seen all the Rocky films and loved Rocky's dialogue and heart. It is funny to see that heart and drive and Rocky's distinctive way of talking re-imagined in the form of Ricky. Because of the Rocky connection, it was one my husband enjoyed as well.

Matt Markey delivers with an engaging, humorous script. It was great to have male protagonist for a change. As an actor, Matt Markey delights with his portrayal of the Rocky-inspired character, Ricky! I also loved Sabrina Bolin as Janie...Ricky's lady boxer friend turned love adviser. This clever spin on the often tired and predictable rom-com genre does not disappoint !

I admit I was a little reluctant going into this movie. I loved Rocky (1976), and I usually dislike formulaic, romantic comedies. I was pleasantly surprised. Matt Markey and Sabrina Bolin's performances were compelling and heartfelt, and I quickly found myself genuinely caught up the drama. The homage to Rocky and boxing gave it just the edge I needed to make the romantic sappiness more palatable. I am a "chick," and I like plenty of "girl" stuff, but I tend not to like "chick flicks."

The movie provided a good end-of-the-week escape, lots of laughs, and is a great "date night" choice for any couple.

Most of the reviewers here testify on Ricky's entertainment merits: It's funny, it has good dialog or it has a believable situation. These aspects are all true but I like the movie for a different reason.

At its core, Ricky is a comedic homage. It's the story about a good guy with a Rocky obsession who pursues an "Adrian" type love interest to fully realize his obsession with Rocky Balboa. There are plenty of films competing for a spot in your Netflix queue that are homages to other films. On the comedy side are, Silence of the Hams (1994), Loaded Weapon I (1993), and Not Another Teen Movie (2001). My favorite is Spaceballs (1987) which I've seen more than a hundred times. The dramatic side has fewer outright homages but they do exist: Rumor Has It...(2005) is an homage to The Graduate. My favorite homage is Conspiracy Theory (1997) which combines Marathon Man (1976) and Taxi Driver (1976).

All these films have their merits but I like Ricky because it presents a different outcome for Rocky's romantic life... an outcome where Marie vies for the heart of our pugilistic paladin.

I'm a true Rocky fan. I know that Sly was the on the hook for the Best Actor Oscar but lost to Peter Finch in Network. No one remembers Network. To me, Rocky is the first small budget film triumph. It had a shoestring $1.1 million dollar budget, grossed $117 million and won three Oscars including Best Picture.

We all know that in Rocky, Balboa is a down and out boxer, He pursues Adrian, who works in his local pet shop. Rocky seems to be a one woman film... Adrian has no competition. But what if she did? What if Marie the tomboy were old enough for Rocky to date? What if Adrian was a more confident woman who had her choice of suitors?

In Ricky, we get to see these scenarios play out in front of our eyes with Tracy as a beautiful, self confident Adrian and Janie as an older Marie, who helps Ricky cope with his unrequited love for Tracy.

Who wins Ricky's heart? Time to add Ricky to your Netflix queue!

I thought Ricky was hilarious. I found the story and the acting to be spot on with the progression of the story. I was laughing so hard at one point my cheeks hurt. I felt the production value overall was very good and you can tell they shot this the right way. If you love Rocky you will love the homage this film makes towards it. If you have ever been through a tough break up you will love this film. The ability to make a break up funny is tough but this movie succeeds in spades. I would recommend this film to anyone who loves comedy. I love comedy and this film truly delivers with the right amount of satire with just enough clout to be a great story worth telling. I saw this film on a Thursday night with my girlfriend and she loved it too, what a funny movie, seriously. Watch Ricky if you want a great laugh.

Usually as a guy a romantic comedy isn't my first choice. This movie integrated Rockyisms, which was very creative and funny. It made it more of movie a man could enjoy. A lot of funny scenes and a few dull moments but overall a creative and funny romantic comedy. A lot of trash talking and joking involved between the characters. The main character Ricky reminded me of lieutenant Dan from Forrest Gump. He was gullible and funny at the same time. A few bar, strip club, and massage parlor scenes I did enjoy being i am that type of guy so i could relate. Really enjoyed this movie from start to finish. big props to the cast and crew.I would recommend seeing this with your lady friend.

Totally fun movie. Great concept from the start, with a dude that connects to Rocky so much … too much?! … that it both helps him and hurts him. This is an indie comedy with a quirky lead actor that you just cannot help but root for. I bought a copy after watching. And I don't often buy movies! I'm impressed most, perhaps, by the independent go-get-em kind of development the film seems to have had. Writer, producer, actor - that's an impressive collection for our "Ricky." And the result is pretty great. The real-life development mimics the qualities of the character - absolute determination is evident. Full cast is spot-on and appropriately lovable. Except for that one girl who we … oh never mind. Spoilers...

This romantic comedy contains all the classic components of a great date movie, with enough comedy and humor to make it a fun romp for all.

Love able but slow witted Ricky loses and then finds love as he and his friends navigate the singles scene of modern day LA.

The audience gets to follow Ricky and his friends as they try to get Ricky back in fighting shape to win the love of his life.

The movie melds the must win redemption attitude of Rocky with the humor and buddy feeling of Swingers.

Strong performances from the entire cast make this movie easy decision for a Sat night movie if your looking for laughs and a good love story

rented this movie with my girlfriend, and besides laughing throughout the movie, it paid homage to one of my favorite movies Rocky. I cant remember a movie that has incorporated so many themes such as the love of boxing, the struggle over a girl, and the ultimate lesson that Ricky has to learn the hard way. It reminded me of myself growing up, a good kid with a big heart, but I cant see the amazing things around me. Well thought out script that goes beyond the typical Hollywood plot. Has some interesting cast members who I have seen on TV commercials, ad print campaigns, as well as top rated movies. Brought me back to another era of movies that actually has a well thought out plot. Cant wait for Ricky II to be released.

Enjoyed "RICKY" very much! has allot of good laughs in it. With RICKY being the underdog all thru the movie you can really feel his true passion for the one gal he has his sites set on. And all through out the movie you are really pushing for this guy to get with gal he loves most of all. Ricky is a true romantic comedy that will bring a nice feeling to you after you see...I give it a true THUMBS up. This Movie was well done by the star of the movie who actually wrote and starred in this film you can defiantly see the real dedication of an independent film . After seeing RICKY you can see why it got all the awards it has received thus far...Really ENJOYED!!!

Writer and lead actor Matt Markey captivates the spirit of unanimously winning it all in this triumphant and heartfelt comedy about love and friendship. 'Ricky' is a date night must see filled with sparkling moments!!!

***This die hard 'Rocky' fan will charm your heart***

Aspiring actor Ricky McDown goes the distance to become the 'perfect' guy for the mistakenly 'perfect' girl Tracy, after kissing the canvas and losing her to Casanova Brad. Adorable boxer Janie rescues Ricky's down and out broken heart by training him to contend with far more than just fighting. Matchmaker Janie is saved by the bell as Ricky weighs in to even out the score to win his girlfriend Tracy back from the pretentious Brad . You'll cheer for the witty and lovable Ricky as he muscles through each jab of relationship revenge. Clinching every bet ever made against his odds. Proving he's a lover and a fighter.

This sentimental movie is packed with tough love punches for the soul. It will entertain you with its buoyant humor and inspiring heroism. Markey cleverly illuminates the premise of 'never judge a book by it's cover'.

'Ricky' is a gargantuan knockout of the park debut film for leading edge writer Matt Markey.

RICKY is a lot of fun! He keeps getting knocked down by love but has the courage to get back up. But he's taken so many shots below the belt, he doesn't see what is in front of him! If your a fan of ROCKY...you'll love RICKY! RICKY's title character Ricky McDown is funny & sweet, & you'd be hard pressed not to root for him. I think we all have some Ricky McDown in us. Some of the funniest scenes are with Ricky & his friend Nader...who needs some Proactive stat. But the way they speak to each other had me in stitches. I think we all remember somebody in our lives who we had banter with like that...And on the flip side, that person would lay down in traffic for you & vice versa.

You have your ticket, enjoy the ride! Definitely some John Hughes themes in there & a little cheesiness too...but who doesn't like cheese?

Very well done. Takes the age-old formula of lead character going for the glamorous, superficial girl while the best girl for him is right under his nose and really puts a clever twist on it with the lead character's Rocky obsession. Great, funny dialogue throughout and really entertaining for a film without any major stars. The Rocky dream sequences are priceless along with various other allusions to Rocky throughout. This film was reviewed on the Jay Mohr show and was panned, but they acted like they were expecting it to be the next Shawshank Redemption, which it is not and it was obviously not intended to be.

This film is definitely worth checking out especially if you like Indie films and seeing up-and-coming actors before they hit it big.

Ricky is a breath of fresh air for Romantic Comedy's. It takes an average guy's movie idol (Rocky) and instills into his own personal life....Don't settle for less then the best, the best might be right in front of you without you even having to chase it! Ricky finds that beauty comes in all ways and is not only skin deep. Ricky finally realizes that some people are just superficial and only care about what other people think of them. He doesn't have to put up a front to the people that are his true friends. Stay true to who you are and to where you came from. Sometimes the grass isn't greener on the other side.

Ricky has funny cast of characters that most guys can relate too.

Nice job!

Ricky is a charming independent film - it is a story about working hard towards something you thought you always wanted, only later on to realize that you don't really want it after all. You go on Ricky's journey of growth and are there with him in dealing with his own insecurities and watch as he rises above them and finds confidence and empowerment within himself. You find yourself being able to relate to the characters and I thought the group of kids who were snobby and insensitive were hilarious (yet we all secretly wanted to be a part of their world) and we all I think can relate to Ricky during various points of the film. Not going to lie, there is a somewhat awkward scene about massage parlors in the film along with a strip club scene but other than that, check it out if you're bored at home and want some time to kill :)

Overall the movie was entertaining and fun to watch. There were some scenes that were a little slow but the story line made up for it. Some of the scenes could have been shortened which could have been more effective. The acting and cast were good in delivering an entertaining performance. The Rocky references added a different spin which made the movie very funny. You get to really connect with Ricky and his journey to getting the girl of his dreams. His best friend helps him through this journey only to discover things aren't all what they seem to be. It's great fun and some classic scenes. I recommend watching it if you want a good laugh and different take on a romantic comedy. It's worth watching.

Spoil Alert: When the main character, Ricky, becomes tangled up with the beautiful girl of his dreams, the audience squirms with dread. We see what Ricky cannot see—this beautiful creature is the dream-girl from hell. Our hearts break as we watch this sultry vixen lead her innocent and naive prey to the slaughter. It's a rocky and pathetic road Ricky finds himself walking; it's a road fraught with doubt and self-loathing. We watch with dread as Ricky's dignity and self-identity erode as he seeks his dream-girl's approval. It's, indeed, a romance doomed from the start. However, our likable main character eventually escapes the clutches of his ignorance and reaches a much-needed epiphany with the help and friendship of another young lady. It's a refreshing and unexpected reversal as love finally blossoms. This enlightenment enables Ricky to evolve into his hero, "Rocky", the iconic character who has stolen the hearts of film goers around the world. See "Ricky". He will steal your heart, as well.

Being a big Rocky fan myself, I thoroughly enjoyed watching this romantic comedy. Ricky is a delightfully funny movie and is without a doubt worth watching. The chemistry between all characters was amazing and the relationship between Ricky and his best friend was authentic.

In the words of Rocky: It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done! And, Ricky is a winner!

Well done job to Matt Markey and team. He was superb and I look forward to seeing another film of his hopefully in the not so distant future. Bravo!

Very interesting and funny comedy. It has my two favorite things in a movie love story and is a comedy. Ricky tries to get back together with his ex-girlfriend while finding himself in very interesting situations..... I really liked the actors, they fit very well in the parts. I have seen all Rocky films. Ricky really has captured the spirit of Rocky but is entirely a different film...which I found it very interesting and funny. Ricky is a accomplished film with very good actors.

Definitely a must see movie. Perfect for a date night with lots and lots of laughs.
