She is frustrated by his refusal to discuss the reason for her visit and puzzled by the reluctance of Albert, to support her, until he admits to her Leopold's revelation and is reassured by her view that it changes nothing between them. As a result the pair form an entente cordiale whilst closet gay lovers Lord Alfred Paget and government aide Drummond enjoy a nude dip with Albert. Harlaxton Manor in Harlaxton, Lincolnshire, was the filming location in lieu of the Château d'Eu in Seine-Maritime in France were Victoria and Louis-Phillipe actually met.

Born in 1773, Louis Phillipe initially supported the French Revolution, but fled after his cousin, King Louis XVI, was beheaded. He lived in North America for several years, where he became friends with Victoria's father, who at the time was stationed in Canada.

There are two focuses in this episode. The dominant one is a trip to France by Victoria to put off a marriage of convenience to the Queen of Spain. It would not be England's interest to have a union between France and Spain. So off goes the entourage to a foreign land. Louise Phillip is the king and he is blustery egoist. Victoria believes she can charm him into going along with her wishes. Meanwhile, Albert has been moping around, full of despair over the news he received at the funeral of his father. He feels amazingly alone, especially as he has kept his secret from his wife. There are some delightful moments in this episode, having a lighter theme. Enjoyable respite.

This was a highly enjoyable episode of the show. I am usually not into sappy, romantic shows or movies, but this episode that highlighted the unique dynamic between Victoria and Albert proved to be a good one.

You don't always have to advance the story forward to have a good episode, and we saw that here.
