On the sprawling Mark Family farm, a peaceful morning quiet is shattered by a woman's tortured scream. Dorothy Mark has walked into a nightmare: the family farmhouse is strewn with the bloody corpses of her son Lesley, his wife Jorjean and their two children. The victims have been horrifically executed, their assailant leaving few traces for the police to track. As the community reels from the devastating loss, detectives begin to suspect that only someone very close to the family-or within it-could have committed the murders. They delve into the fraught history between the four brothers and their parents, and discover a legacy of mental illness, greed and all-consuming jealousy.
