Towards the end, during Kyle's fight with Sinestro, Kyle crashes into a plane on the ground. On the plane, the name "Col. Hal Jordan" can be seen, referencing the Green Lantern preceding Kyle Rayner.

Near the beginning, the thug that tries to mug Jimmy Olsen's camera is clearly modeled after Guy Gardner, another Earth Green Lantern in the comics who's attitude borders on that of an anti-hero.

Abin Sur's ring chooses Kyle Rayner, in the comics it chose Hal Jordan.

When he first arrives, Sinestro proclaims, "Abin Sur was no friend of mine." This is not accurate in the comics. Sinestro and Abin Sur were very close. Sinestro proclaimed Abin as his mentor and one of his closest friends (another listed is Hal Jordan even though they often fought against one another). Sinestro even began dating and having a child with Abin Sur's sister. The child, Soranik Natu, would become a physician and later a Green Lantern in her own right. She would go on to have a romantic relationship with the Green Lantern featured in this episode, Kyle Rayner.

When Kyle first wields the ring to save the young girl from the truck, it seems as though the ring forced him to intervene. This is not so. The ring reacts to what you will it to do, when Kyle sees the girl in danger, his instinct is to help and reach for her, the ring channels his will to fly him over to snatch her before the truck strikes. This is also how Kyle is able to deflect the bolts Sinestro fires at him, as he instinctively attempts to shield himself from harm.

Among the well known Green Lanterns shown to Superman on Oa are; Salaak (first), Katma Tui (second), Kilowog (fourth), Arrkis Chummuck (fifth), Tomar Re/Tomar Tu (sixth) and Arisia (last one shown).

Kyle is seen with a rejection letter with the DC logo on it. DC Comics is the company that created both Superman and Green Lantern.
