Betty's black-and-white fantasy sequence (in which she envisions Matt and herself as an older, bitter couple yelling at each other) is a reference to the play and especially the movie' Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?' Another oblique reference in the same episode came earlier, when Justin said that he had to rush home to watch an Elizabeth Taylor marathon on television; Taylor starred in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf.
