When I heard about the shooting of beautiful South African supermodel Reeva Steenkamp by amputee athlete Oscar Pistorius, the first thing that went through my mind was "SOUTH PARK predicted this tragedy years ago."

Even though there's a great deal of humor in this episode -- watching wordless Timmy try to narc on Jimmy -- watching Eric Cartman con his mother about his need to learn compassion for the handicapped ("help me change. Please?") -- and best of all, watching Cartman prepare himself to go "undercover" as a mentally challenged kid by watching Kid Rock clown around in one of his lame rap videos -- the most unforgettable scene is where Jimmy, hopped up on steroids, flies into a psychotic rage and brutally beats his helpless girlfriend, to the accompaniment of tragic violins. SOUTH PARK made the moment melodramatic and funny, in a dark and twisted way, but today it seems only too perceptive and prophetic.

SOUTH PARK is a show that has truly proved to be ahead of its time.

Up The Down Steroid brings up the issue of steroid use in the Olympics. The special Olympics are coming up and Jimmy is worried about competition. He starts taking steroids to boost his performance but his steroid use turns him into a monster and he starts hurting the people he cares about.Timmy finds out about his use and tries to dissuade him but Jimmy wont listen.Meanwhile, Cartman sees that the winning prize in the special Olympics is $1000.He then gets the great idea to act as a mentally-handicapped person in order to win the prize money, but it then turns out that the mentally-handicapped kids are actually good and he is bad in comparison. This is a fairly good episode of South park with some funny moments. It features the song "Push It To The Limit" from Scarface(this great movie would also be referenced in two other episodes), this episode(along with Good TImes With Weapons) show Cartman telling Kyle about the "Passion Of The Christ"(this will later be explained in the episode "The Passion Of The Jew")

This episode shows the typical ways of Cartman and also how south park is a bit inflated by Simpsons? I noticed while watching this episode, one normal person that has always been really nice to people and never do anyone harm end up like a wild person. In the Simpsons episode "Strong arms of the ma" Marge starts using steroids and she ends up bigger and stronger then everyone else, just like jimmy she begins to hit people and in that scene where Jimmy/Marge turns on their closest friend.

Both south park choose to have the song "Barber - Adagio For Strings Op" The song is soothing and yet at the same time it sounds like a sad song, and with the panic in the other voices it really sets the mood. I just fell in love with this song and it seems like both Simpsons and South park did.

I think its pretty clear where South park got this idea with the steroids. But who knows, maybe South park was first after all?
