All the adults in town have gathered at Mr. Mackey's house for a meteor-watching party. While giving his guests a tour of the house, Mr. Mackey shows off his new hot tub. Declaring the night to be a time of experimentation, Stan's father and Kyle's father get in the tub together as the other guests go downstairs. After talking for a while about trying new things, they decide to masturbate together. This causes Stan's father to have misgivings about his sexuality and to feel increasingly guilty as the night goes on. Meanwhile, the ATF has the house surrounded, thinking the guests are a crazed religious cult planning to commit suicide when the meteor shower starts.

Until this episode, Butters was called Swanson and never spoke.
In the original airing of "Two Guys Naked in a Hot Tub", the episode was instead titled "Melvins".
The song both the ATF and Mr. Mackey play is garbled version of Cher's "Believe." After this song, instrumentals of both Cartman's "Wild Wild West" and Chef's "Stinky Britches" are heard.
When the boys are flipping through the television channels, Christophe, also known as The Mole, is seen for a split second on one of the channels. The Mole was first seen in the South Park movie and due to Kenny's wish he remains alive and is seen in this scene.
First time Butters has a major role in the series.
The painting, "The Scream" by Edvard Munch, hangs over Mr. Mackey's bed.
