Food Matters (2008) Online

"Let Thy Food Be Thy Medicine, And Thy Medicine Be Thy Food." - Hippocrates That is the message from the founding father of modern medicine echoed in this brave new documentary film brought to you by Producer-Directors James Colquhoun and Laurentine ten Bosch. 'Food Matters' is a hard hitting, fast paced look at our current state of health. Despite the billions of dollars of funding and research into new so-called cures we continue to suffer from a raft of chronic ills and every day maladies. Patching up an over-toxic and over-indulgent population with a host of toxic therapies and nutrient sparse foods is definitely not helping the situation. In a personal quest of discovery James & Laurentine together with a film crew and the editorial and production expertise of Enzo Tedeschi have set out on an independent mission to uncover the wholesome truth. The filmmakers have interviewed several world leaders in nutrition and natural healing who claim that not only are we harming our bodies ...

Elastic Skunk

Elastic Skunk

A very dangerous film. DO NOT LISTEN TO IT. I am a REAL Biochemist (degree and all) and I can say for sure MOST OF this film is a lie.

Yes certain things are true such as B3 and depression but 11,500mg of B3 (Niacin) a day is NOT HEALTHY. The movie leads you on to believe that the person needs it because they are deficient. The truth could actually be that the person is actually not deficient and that the receptor in the brain for B3 is genetically hampered and doesn't respond well (or even none at all of which the next part wouldn't matter) to B3 unless massive doses (high molarity) is present which will decrease the Kd (dissociation constant). You could end up killing your family member doing this by OVER DOSING them. People have to understand that Niacin is a CHEMICAL and like all Chemicals they have side EFFECTS, so lets review them shall we? Primary side effects contain (hey we've seen this before right?) Blotching, Fever, dryness (Psoriasis), muscle damage, and hepatoxicity (liver damage to the extent of failure). also if you don't believe that you can always check an accredited medical site such as Mayo Clinic. Thank god the person listened to their psychiatrist and stopped that ludicrous regimen.

Why its not healthy even though the movie people say it is. The thing is when you have a high molarity of anything other reactions in the body can and will take place. This can make things very dangerous, and also the reason why many nutritionists have no idea what's going on in the human body. Nutrition is mostly PREVENTIVE and slightly CURATIVE. Medicine is the opposite and that is why people who get cured get sick again because they don't learn the PREVENTIVE MEASURES or decline to do them. There is a Biochemist I know in fact that takes Lipitor to reduce their cholesterol even though they know healthy eating would be better just cause they hate exercise and wants to eat what they want despite knowing and admitting its bad for them. That is also quite shameful and a poor example to others.

The whole thing about vitamin C and cancer is true to an extent. Vitamin C is an antioxidant and can prevent cancer (notice preventive!), so why don't we eat more of it? Because it can cause cancer at HIGHER MOLARITIES. There are hundreds of accredited documented papers that discuss this. They are hard to find (but they are there) because of all the science Jargon that I'm used to but It has been shown in:

What happens is metals such as iron can be reduced, oxidized, and then re-reduced, in a process called redox cycling that can generate reactive oxygen species and THOSE ARE BAD. Don't read the ones by Linus Pauling as they are biased (obviously) and were even cited as an embarrassment by the National Cancer Institute. Linus Pauling (discussed in this film) who was pretty much the founder of megadosing vitamin C took around 12,000mg of vitamin C A DAY and DIED of PROSTATE CANCER. If it was so miraculous why didn't it save him? Because it doesn't work.

Now the film also states that modern medicine and scientist didn't try megadosing. Well, that's not true either. The Mayo Clinic which is a NONPROFIT organization tried to replicate Linus Pauling's work with megadosing and cancer and found that they COULD NOT REPLICATE the results even with THREE subsequent trials.

Source: Cabanillas, F (2010). "Vitamin C and cancer: what can we conclude--1,609 patients and 33 years later?". Puerto Rico health sciences journal 29 (3): 215–7.

Everything you eat causes cancer because of the superoxide anion radicals (O2*-) formed in the mitochondria, but is also reduced to H2O2 (hydrogen peroxide) and other reactions with OH and so on and so forth. Now Vitamin C pulls away those oxygen radicals. That's how it works to SAVE you, but again too much is not a good idea.

Anyways, all foods have certain effects that negate one form of cancer and cause another. The trick is a BALANCE. Even grass fed beef while known to cause colon cancer and testicular cancer in men, prevents a slew of other cancers, diabetes, and other problems with its Conjugated Linoleic Acid only found in grass fed beef not corn fed beef. Again balance is key. Eat but in moderation.

In conclusion this film is trash and an abomination to real scientists and again if it was so true then why at the end of the credits do they pretty much say, "DO NOT DO THIS!" It is insulting, dangerous for the average viewer, and full of lies and worst of all false hopes.

The overall message of the film- that our food supply is in bad shape and that our dietary habits are contributing to our current health crisis - is one that I believe in whole-heartedly. However, making that argument with a bunch of new-age mumbo-jumbo pseudoscience mixed with a sprinkling of real facts as this film does is counterproductive. It just makes it that much easier for the giant corporations, medical establishment and public at large to dismiss these questions and continue destroying the world's farmlands and our collective health. Go watch "Food Inc." instead if you wish to find out what is wrong with the world's food supply and what can be done to fix it.

Don't waste your time. Aside from being a poorly made, tedious documentary, I can't seem to find any evidence supporting the very outlandish claims that the people interviewed make--I can, however, find plenty of evidence that contradicts these claims. And I don't know about you but I'm going to need a good amount of evidence that someone lost 15 lbs in one day and didn't die, and that Vitamin C can cure cancer. They do make some points that seem okay like eat vegetables, take your vitamins etc. but who didn't already know that?

What little evidence that does come up is not verified by the documentary at all, the viewer is left on their own to find it, and for all the major points that the doc makes I cannot find anything(with the exception of Linus Pauling's study on vit c done back in 1968, but it has been contradicted many times since (see the citations on the wikipedia pg of Linus Pauling) and Pauling's study was found to be bunk anyway. (ibid)).

Also, I can't seem to find credentials on anyone interviewed here (well, not any credentials they would want to brag about anyway, like how Dan Rogers got his MD from a University in Mexico). Andrew Saul does write the occasional paper in the journal he mentions but he only has a small handful of citations and only then because he cites his own papers. There are also many logical fallacies. For example, Andrew Saul is being interviewed and says "Doctors say you shouldn't take vitamins". (or something to take effect) But I've never heard of a doctor doing that. Classic Straw-man fallacy. After all, if that were true how could Centrium claim that it's the "#1 Doctor recommended". All the doctors I've spoken to recommend multivitamins, with few reservations.

Alright so to sum it up. Very strong, outlandish statements, and no evidence to back them up, not even if you look for it.

I am inspired. I am motivated. I love watching this documentary, even though it's the fifth time I've seen it. Watching this has been on my to-do list for a long time. And, am I glad I saw it! I showed it to many of my friends and we all wholeheartedly agreed that this is a documentary we want to see a few times a year. It's that good! Every time I see it, I hear something new. And for the stuff I've already heard, it just further ingrains it in my sub consciousness and I feel myself internalizing its details more and more. I walk away feeling strong, smart, and empowered about my lifestyle decisions, albeit a bit frustrated at times because not enough people know this information.

I pretty much hang on every line of Food Matters. I love the discussion of vitamins and the vital role vitamin C can play in helping fight illness at various quantities. It was fascinating to learn about the therapeutic effects of niacin, and its history as a cure for depression with the founder of Alcoholics Anonymous. There is so much more that I could write but you should see it for yourself. It's fantastic!

Food Matters was a very intriguing and interesting documentary. It gave me an additional viewpoint on the development of modern medicine. Most Americans have no idea what's behind the scenes in this field, but this documentary uncovered some of the mystery. The health experts that were featured in the documentary gave an insight on many controversial issues such as cancer, vitamins, and the lack of nutrition knowledge in today's medical field. I personally enjoyed hearing about how organic methods are rarely considered when treating an illness or disease. The health experts gave us specific cases in history that retained to organic methods of healing being more beneficial than the "pill for an ill" approach that medical doctors are being trained to apply in their practices in today's society. It really opened my eyes hearing about how major medical industries are hiding the fact that vitamins and organics can be just as effective in body system healing as the medicinal methods. The health experts produced facts and statistics that proved this and it made me want to look more into the motivation of modern medical industries. In this documentary, the health experts repeatedly told their viewers how today's medical industry is very money driven. It is almost like they value the money over the actual health and well- being of the population. I was bewildered to hear that most medical schools do not thoroughly teach nutrition to their students, and this was said to be a big problem. It is a huge problem because the root of a lot of current illnesses and diseases lie in what the patient's daily diet consists of. I am a strong believer that a healthy, well-balanced diet is detrimental to stay healthy and active, so hearing this small fact from the documentary was no shock to me. In all, this documentary was very insightful and I recommend it for anyone interested in delving deeper into today's medical motivation's and uncovering how Orthomolecular medicine can impact the population in a beneficial way.

This movie is virtually full of crap and only the gullible will believe this garbage. Now not all of it is bad since the info on Spirulina is fairly accurate, so there is some truth. Unfortunately the rest of it is pure trash, "doctors don't believe in vitamins"?. I've never met a single colleague that has never taken vitamins and their prescription lightly.

What medical schools did these guys attend, one of the main things you learn is about vitamins and their benefits, not to mention in my board exams there were plenty of questions based on vitamins alone. We as health professionals don't ask about the persons diet? Again that is a sheer lie, anyone that is one of the first things you ask when trying to figure out the origin of a problem.

Watch this for what it is entertainment, but do not take it as truth because frankly this is one of the worst documentaries I've ever seen. This move is full of lies and cherry picking cases, because lets face it there are good (majority) and bad doctors. The film makers had an agenda and picked up nuts and liars.

Notice how there was at no point anyone to offer a counter point in the move, a key piece in serious documentaries. Everyone one they've picked all spout the same thing, not to mention the majority from the one man in his living that was flat out lying and distorting the truth from the beginning.

Sadly I see that a couple of the reviews actually believe this crap and I feel sorry for them. If you actually believe that the medical field is as bad as this movie says it is, then there is no hope for you. One of the few things they got right is that we are what we eat. Unfortunately unlike what the movie would have you believe, pharmaceutical company executives are not forcing people to eat McDonalds, Pizza Hut, KFC, etc at gun point. Obesity is a problem because people eat crap regardless whether you tell them to change their diet for good.

Nothing New Age about it! The types of people trying to get the message across that food matters, have been around for AGE's. It's just that most people can't handle the truth and choose to see it as new age baffle. A lot of emphasis goes on the Pharmaceuticals and money changers, but I think the public is just as much to blame for turning a blind eye.

Is what it is...It tells the truth and most of the people telling it simply don't get the recognition they deserve as their credentials are not recognized by the very firms that poison us to begin with. How can they only 6% of doctors in medical schools are only being taught about the importance of nutrition.

The System is a Joke and most people are laughing their way, to their own graves. Since viewing over 12 months ago I have personally recovered from a host of illnesses. Its change my life around and I know it's True.

Well worth the watch, you'll be thankful you did!

I am a mother of four kids, and our family has a slew of health problems. After my husband got out of the hospital for gallstones, we started reading up on natural ways to get rid of gallstones, and stumbled upon this movie. We were enchanted. The information in this movie is such an eye opener. I also recommend watching "The Beautiful Truth"...what an epiphany! I want to just give this movie to everyone I know so we can all start being healthy. Our family is no different from everyone else-food wise. We have always tried to eat well, buy our kids healthy things to eat, etc. Little did we know that buying organic food and eating uncooked food was the key! We have been eating nothing but organic food for a week and a half and we feel great! My husband's gallstone pain is GONE...completely gone! I can now eat salad without any pain (I have diverticulitis). Two of my kids have ADHD and ADD, and they are CALMER already! I can't believe we've been poisoning ourselves all this time. The food industry is just a big money making lie!!!! Please watch this and other documentary's on food, it's a life change!

Such a bimodal distribution in the reviews ... wonder why? Look at the content. Those who are for it, are totally for it, and in every case it is because they have personally experienced what Saul is talking about.

Those against it are totally against it, abusive in fact, have never .. . let me repeat: NEVER tried Saul's recommendations. Also, in general they are squaking out of being completely offended because their pride has been hurt by Saul's accusations. Can you say "biased"?

Especially with regard to vitamin therapies. For every peer review with original data (not trumped up "comprehensive reviews" which is a ploy to cherry pick data to fit your desired outcome) ... original data that shows no benefit from IVC you will find NONE that followed the recommended protocol that would achieve a minimum of millimolar concentrations of vitamin C in blood serum. In otherwords ... they're all underdosed.

For those properly dosed (usually requires a minimum of 10g/dose of intravenous vitamin C) EVERY study has found at a minimum significant quality of life improvements from energy, to pain management, to organ function, to attitude and wellness for most of the respondents. There are at least 4 dozen peer reviewed studies all with original data, that show such findings ... and that's quality of life ... if you want to actually kill cancer with vitamin C you need even more. At least 50g per dose.

Not increasing blood levels of vitamin C up into the millimolar range has been a very effective way to create a study that pretends to show that Vitamin C is ineffective at killing cancer. Also, the convenient neglect regarding quality of life improvement from vitamin C is also very devious by those more interested in saving the reputation of their medical comrades than in looking deeper into the data to see how horribly underdosed their "proof" is, or how all the test subjects were stage 4 metastatic chemo resistant patients in their coveted anti-vitamin C studies.

Meanwhile many oncologists, not all mind you, will push experimental oral chemo drugs costing $10,000 per month to buy someone an extra %15 longer survival, whereas PROPER-protocol (emphasis on "proper) IVC (intravenous vitamin C) in general extends life far further for 1/8th that cost plus imparts a ton of quality of life improvements while the oral chemo makes people feel like crap and want to die.

These are the facts. And FYI .. that crap about super high dose vitamin C causing cancer ... beyond laughable. All the actual tests prove the opposite: higher dose more selectively kills cancer (while strengthening the normal cellular matrix). This movie is outstanding. It should be mandatory to be shown to every one who cares about "health care" in the US. The cartel and money- driven actors in this massive industry are encouraged to let people get sick, and then treat them with expensive pharmaceuticals and medical procedures. "Specialists" MD's have become singularly minded in their patient interactions, such that anything that is complex, multi-system, and doesn't drive to an expensive procedure is brushed off an "unremarkable". Sick people and their families are often distraught not so much about their illnesses, but about the woeful "bedside manner" of so many doctors, who show little ability to think outside the box, let alone reinforce nutritional and wellness best practices at every turn. If the AMA and other medical industry organizations truly were effective and cared to truly "fix" the health outcomes of our 310 million citizens while dramatically lowering the costs associated to it, the look and feel of our mini-marts, supermarkets, fast food restaurants....and physical appearance of millions of Americans...would be much different.

This film has little new info but is presented in a way that the viewer can't shrug off. The message is ridiculously simple but has been all but lost among the mainstream of our society. The idea that vitamins and superfoods have tremendous benefits should hardly be considered pseudoscience.

I highly recommend watching and then doing your own research. Watch with your friends and discuss. As you can see from the reviews you will either enjoy it or be offended. (Anyone in big pharma can't help but hate it. The number of individuals who die as a result of properly taken medications is astonishing.)

After watching the film I definitely had a conviction to look more into vitamins for my family's health. We have since started going to an Dr. who stresses prevention and has given us guidance with vitamins and supplements(there are a lot out there and some are completely worthless).

If you are a Dr. and stress the importance of vitamins with your patients good for you. Our country must start being more proactive with it's health, we've ignored it for far too long!

OK, so I have been researching a lot of this for some time. I've watched all of those Netflix movies, Food Matters, Food Inc., The Gerson Therapy, The Beautiful Truth, Etc. I've read documentaries, I am even about to read Max Gerson's book. As of right now I am completely on the fence as to whether this is all BS or not, so if you want an unbiased opinion, hear me out.

It has always been my philosophy to always question things, to doubt what may be true, and to consider things that may seem far-fetched. This debate is no different, and here is my opinion on both sides of the debate:

For Food Matters and Nutritional Therapies: It seems so simple, and so easy to understand. Being healthy can of course make your life longer, and can probably prevent diseases such as cancer. If this is the case, why can't good health also REVERSE the effects? Also, why would all of these people go to the trouble of putting this movie together, and then putting it on the internet to see for free? As for the whole "corporate invaded health care" I don't see any reason why this wouldn't be true, there are so many other things our citizens don't know, why can't this just be one more?

Against Food Matters and Nutritional Therapies: The first thing in my head wasn't to doubt the movie, I actually full heartedly believed it for a day after I watched it. Then I began questioning. Think about it, this is basically a conspiracy against 90+% of doctors, who ALL don't know ANYTHING about nutrition. It doesn't make much sense now, does it? And why would any doctor knowingly not release this information, realizing how many people it could save?

The point here, don't take sides and call it a night. Research it. Some of it could be true, some false. ALL of it could be true! Who knows? The information is here for you, books are here. Research. I know one thing is for certain, good nutrition is key to leading long healthy lives.

A vegan diet is actually best for us, because we once were herbivores and just recently began eating meat. Non-cooked foods are of course better as well. I personally recommend eating an organic vegan diet, BUT do not do so without knowing what nutrition, go to a nutritionist if you need to, but you'd be better off eating a diet filled with red meat than eating a vegan diet that has no nutritional value. Be smart about it, and remember to always question, and don't always just blow off those conspiracy buffs.

Like most food documentaries, Food Matters is incredibly biased. All the "experts" seem to have a unanimous opinion that pesticides, GMOs and pharmaceutical companies are the root to all evil, we can however, according to the people in the documentary, change this by eating healthier foods. And do not forget your supplements that is continuously mentioned as a part of a healthy diet in the film!

Conspiracy theories explain why studies on supplements (they mostly talk about vitamin c) usually do not show any benefits; the government is hiding the studies! The music can be described as mysterious and I am getting the impression that they want me to think; "Wow, I didn't know that, this is so scary!".

They have some good points like that doctors hardly have any education in nutrition and that people should spend more money on food. They also mention that we should eat more healthy foods like vegetables, and have about one sentence mentioning exercise being good for our health. The rest however, is pure nonsense, that cannot be backed up by science.

Statements like "cooked food reacts as a toxin in our bodies", and "superfood makes you live longer" are mentioned. They do not mention that in some foods cooking actually remove the toxins and that there is no evidence that "superfood" is any healthier than regular healthy food like your everyday fruits and vegetables, the difference being that the "superfood" is a little bit more expensive and can be bought on their website.

They also state that the drug companies cannot get any money if people are not sick, so we should buy vitamin supplements on their website instead! I do not want to defend drugs or pharmaceutical companies in any way, but if you want to improve your diet to become more healthy, you should focus on eating more healthy food like fruits and vegetables (it does not have to be the "super" goji berry), not supplements.

To summarize this I believe this documentary to be pretty bad considering that it is very biased, not based on science and they continuously seem to try to scare people into thinking that they will die if they do not start to consume supplements. If you want to improve your health and learn more about food there are far better documentaries out there.

A beautiful well-laid out, all covering documentary of the problems associated with diet and the real ways to heal everyone. I don't understand the ignorance of people when they still believe standard medicine will heal our modern days wealth related diseases. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that if modern medicine was successful we would not be having more deaths by cancer, diabetes, heart diseases etc.

Just to clarify - my review is not financed by one of the evil pharmaceutical companies that intends to rule the world. I'm a reasonably health conscious individual but that doesn't mean I can't spot quacks when I see em.

This documentary is filled with (il)logical arguments only someone fluent in ancient Indus Valley language can decipher :- 1) Max Gerson used to hang around with people like Einstein - Einstein was a genius - that makes Gerson a genius as well. 2) "Good health does not cost money, so there is no reason to promote good health". The concept of economic cost of disease to the society does not exist at all 3) Medical journals do not cite one of their alternative medicine journals because they are "afraid" these would prove effective and ruin them trillions of dollars (and not because they are quack of course) 4) The testimony of doctors with dubious qualifications is sufficient for something to work while everything scientific and proved is a conspiracy - "I had a patient who was sick - treated the patient with my prescription - he/she was able to get super human abilities including ice breath, an extra arm and the ability to control intestinal bacteria. I can't prove these naturally, but if I made a documentary on it - it must be true right?"

People who appear in this video must first treat themselves to a 6th grade science text book and understand what scientific testing means. I had multiple brain farts sitting through the whole video.

This film could save your life or that of a loved one and is a definite must watch.

It aligns with my experiences in eating. That is the more quality fresh food that you eat and this next bit is my own take "by eating less or smaller portions" the better you will feel. Life extensionists will attest to the eating less formula.

The broad picture is nothing any of us don't already know essentially that eating healthy will make you healthy. You are what you eat! The film explores high dosages of nutrients in combating cancer and that this methodology has proved successful. Watch the film to catch reference to studies.

After watching this ANYONE who has loved one(s) who are sick and dying of cancer will be searching furiously for the studies that show nutrition supplementation AND a wholesale change in lifestyle and diet might just be what can save their life.

How the medical industry calculates "cancer survivors" which is another scam pushed on to the public is also covered, as is the excellent discussion on the disease industry which is more about needing sick people to care and prescribe drugs to rather than preventing illness.

My review of the Documentary Food Matters, that overall it was an interesting documentary with content that many people would not know about. The documentary uses many nutritionist and people with PhDs talk about the medical professions and how they do not know about nutrition. In the documentary, they did not organize the content very well and switched topics very quickly to where they missed some of the things they wanted to say and had to come back to it. Some of the people who were interviewed, only saw things the way they wanted to see it. Some of them took a one sided argument and did not care to see doctor's point of view when it comes to medicine. On top of this, some of the interviewees made some claims that were very hard to believe to be true. In one instance of this, the guy states "by cleansing your body and drinking lots of water, I know a guy that lost 15 pounds in one day." Anyone with common sense would know that this is nearly impossible and if it is possible, then it very unhealthy and no one, especially someone with PhD, should not be promoting someone to lose weight that quickly. There were also other claims that were made in this documentary that I find very hard to be true and it does not seem that they are able to prove a lot of their "facts".On the other end of the spectrum, much of the content was very good information that more people need to know about. I believe that it is important that more people care about their health and that they change what they put into their bodies to help themselves. American people also need to realize how some drug can have many negative effects on them, if not kill them and if there is another way to go about fixing the issue that is healthier and more natural than people should try to use the healthier way.

Food Matters is a documentary about nutrition, exploring malnutrition and cancer causes. It examines the current state of America's food supply, and suggests that the over-industrialization of food production is making the nation more ill by the moment. Also,it analyzes the proliferation of chemical additives in "natural" foods; looks at the relationship between the lack of nutrients in the American diet; and the nation's rising health care costs, and offers tips for system detoxification.

The film is presented in the style of a documentary, containing interviews, animations, and footage of various therapies and practices. It presents the thesis that a selective diet can play a key role in treating a range of health conditions such as diabetes, cancer, heart disease and depression, often without the need of medical treatment. Furthermore, it tends to label the medical industry as a "sickness industry" profiting from sickness as opposed to health, and goes up to the point of accusing the medical and pharmaceutical industries of a conspiracy to perpetuate poor health, and thus, maximize their profit. In what promises to be the most contentious idea put forward, the filmmakers have interviewed several world leaders in nutrition and natural healing who claim that not only are we harming our bodies with improper nutrition, but that the right kind of foods, supplements and detoxification can be used to treat chronic illnesses as fatal as terminally diagnosed cancer. It promotes vitamins and a raw food diet; other claims are depression treated with vitamin B3 (niacin) and cancer cured with vitamin C.The interviewees point out that not every problem requires costly, major medical attention and reveal many alternative therapies that can be more effective, more economical, less harmful and less invasive than conventional medical treatments.

This was one of the most informative documentaries ever release about health and nutrition. Everything in it will encourage a change one's lifestyle and take responsibility for one's health.Anyone who has health issues should watch this and be ready to get educated. It will really tell you how food really matters.

I am just weighing in as another scientist (developmental biologist) who has had formal training in nutrition.

I eat a extremely lean, unprocessed, whole food, mostly plant based diet and I take it nutritionally-supported health very seriously.

I don't know everything but I know enough to know that this video is crap presented as science.

PLEASE DON'T TAKE THEIR ADVICE!

Text Text Text because my simple review is too short.

More text text text, words words words. Reading this text is still less of a waste of time than this poor excuse for a 'documentary.'

I am in the natural health field, so I KNOW there is a HUGE difference between what is taught in the medical nutrition classes and what is taught in the natural nutrition classes. Now, colleges do not label their nutrition classes to be "medical nutrition", it just simply says "nutrition". But, I have taken nutrition in college and 50% of the information I heard was false, but I kept my mouth shut because the teacher is only teaching what SHE learned from HER medical nutrition teacher. So yes, the reviewer above thinks the documentary is propaganda just because they are basing it off what their personal knowledge is from the college they've been to. Trust me, my nutrition class talked about diet and vitamins, but it was so nonsensical that I couldn't believe that all the "to be" nurses in the class were buying to the information. Go to a holistic center (a REAL holistic center, not the medical ones trying to cover their ass and still receive money) and take a real course. Or even, if you are Christian read the BIBLE, and it will tell you to eat RAW fruits and vegetables and it will discuss that the people were vegan and vegetarian until the flood came and wiped out the vegetation, and only then did they begin to eat meat. This documentary is trying to bring you the truth. Why? Because they want YOU to be your own doctor, and they want YOU to do your own research, and not listen to everything you hear from your doctor. If that includes researching information you hear in this documentary SO BE IT! Do the research before you make your conclusions.

Now, my naturopathic teacher who taught me had a story. Her mother was dying in the hospital, and her doctor was trying to save her life with medication. My teacher had a book of medication and how they can interfere with each other, so when the doctor tried to recommend a new medication my teacher looked it up in the book and said, "It says here that these two medications can cause death". So the doctor took the book and started looking up what medication would be appropriate for her mother. Nothing saved her life of course, but the end of the story turns out like this: This medical doctor took a course with my NATUROPATHIC doctor, and told her "thank you so much. Working every day in the health field, you begin to lose sight of what is important. After many years of working here, I forgot how the body actually worked." So, if a medical doctor isn't told the absolute truth about vitamins or diet, and then loses sight of the REAL function of the body... What do you expect to happen to our people? If you are in the medical health field, do yourself a favor and don't bother watching this documentary. The medical field is not willing to compromise, and neither is the natural field. There really is no harmony between these dividing divisions. So, for those of you in the middle here, just watch the documentary and research the information for yourself. Don't strictly go by what the other reviewer said, and don't strictly go by what I say. YOU are your own doctor; YOU need to be responsible for YOUR OWN health; YOU need to do the research.

Most of the claims in this documentary are false, and some are down right dangerous! (You CANT eat as many vitamin supplements as you like, you can overdose and get adverse side effects, get your vitamins from fruit and veg and they're completely safe though) The 'experts' in this clearly have no idea what they're talking. It's a shame because healthy eating is an important message, but they've warped this message so much. Eating a plant based diet is incredibly good for, especially making your own food instead of eating processed food, but most of the 'science' in this is completely false. And vitamins are good for you, eat as many as you can, but in the form of fruit and vegetables! This is in no way dangerous and the best way to uptake vitamins.

Food Matters was a great movie! I really enjoyed it and it taught me a lot about the types of food that are good and that are not good to eat. It talked about what is considered nutritional or not nutritional. It also explains the importance of vitamins in a daily diet. If he or she doesn't consume the right foods or vitamins, it can cause serious health issues and mental illnesses. It can also help cure certain health concerns or issues. I feel it is an important movie for anyone to watch and it addresses several issues, concerns, and statements that I strongly feel are crucial to know. The movie contained interesting facts and points that were made. Again, I highly recommend this movie to all people.

Co-directed by James Colquhoun and Laurentine Ten Bosch, this film documents the corruption of the very nature of food pricing, with the federal government's mindless subsidy of big agribusiness, and especially corn production, and how this perverts international markets, such as making corn cheaper to Mexican farmers than that they can grow; the irony being that Mexico is the birthplace and cradle of corn to the world. A bevy of the same talking heads from the other films make some of the same points as they do elsewhere, but this film stitches together a solid narrative and trail of evidence for even the most apathetic viewer to easily follow. There are some claims made, by some of the wackier denizens of this documentary, and the others, such as simply eating this or that being a cure for cancer, or curing clinical depression simply by subscribing a high niacin diet, but none of this has ever been tested in controlled studies.

That stated, the film is correct in calling out the FDA, the Department of Agriculture, and the EPA for their failures to regulate the production and marketing of the assorted advertising gimmicks used to foist bad foods upon the public, as well as labeling the whole system the 'sickness industry,' rather than the wellness or food industry, as well as showing how perverse it is for the drug companies (which often own the agriculture companies) to control the medical journals and university grants that research and detail the harm caused by their own policies.

Technically, Food Matters is a cut or two above Fed Up! on the cinematic scale, and also penetrates a bit more deeply into the issues that first film raises. The lone negative of the film is one that plagues some of the other films in this review, and that is the use of some rather cheesy animation.

The documentary "food matters" is about the unhealthy food and chemical injection into the human body. These unhealthy food and injections have increased diseases like stroke, obesity, cancer, Dementia, arthritis, heart attack and many more greatly over the years. Medicine swallowed in order for these diseases to be cured causes more harm because it adds up to the chemicals already in our body. Statistics show that about 106,000 die yearly in America from wrong pharmaceutical drug prescription. Some techniques used were music to accompany images- the sound pitches higher and higher when the documentary shows the chemicals. Another technique used was the variety of voices and perspectives- different age groups, people and genders all showed concerned on the same issue. Statistics was also used.

The documentary suggest that people should eat natural food instead of GMO'S and change their life style because it is cheaper, natural and more effective. Changing their life style in the way they eat suggest that people should eat natural home made food and not settle for junk food such as fast food sold like KFC, MacDonald etc.

This documentary was effective because they began to prescribe natural medicine instead of pharmaceutical. Also the video suggests that pharmaceutical industry should think about the ethical implications of their product and not only money.

The basis for this entire documentary is that they food we put into our bodies is not good for us and we take too much medicine. So much of the food we eat today is, compared to years ago, is covered in pesticides and produced in an unhealthy way. We are putting all of those toxins in our bodies and our bodies are then getting "defensive" and it acts like the body is being intruded. What they are saying about pesticides not being good for us is true, but not everyone has access to fresh, raw, organic foods. They come across like you're a horrible person if you don't eat the way they want you to. They also talk about how we take too much medicine. Every problem, even if its a little one, here we go, busting out the meds. While yes, its true that we do take a lot of medicine, it doesn't necessarily mean that we are being horrible to our body. I had a headache the other day, I did everything I could to get it to go away. I shut the blinds in my room, turned off the lights and the television, laid down, and closed my eyes. My headache never went away, it had been hours since it started, but I didn't want to take medicine for it. Eventually I decided to because it was getting annoying. THe medicine kicked and it went away. I haven't had a headache since. Medicine isn't always bad. Later on in the document they discuss cancer. Charlotte Gerson said that our body is amazing at what it can do. While i do agree with her, I do start to disagree when she says that the way we eat basically makes cancer develop. If we change our eating habits to the fresh, raw, organic food, our body will be able to fight off any cancer that tries to form. That is just simply untrue. I know one person and have heard of others being really super healthy and still getting cancer. The person I know lives in Los Angeles, has money, and access to these kinds of foods. He's always drinking water, eating right, taking care of his body, and he still got cancer. I think that the people in this video are very one sided and need to look at everything from both sides of the spectrum.
