The girls call the Itoshiki family butler Sebastian, after the titular character of Kuroshitsuji (2008) Sebastian Michaelis.

Just like Nozomu Itoshiki, the rest of his family have their names that can be written horizontally or vertically, which provide ironic meanings.

  • Mikoto Itoshiki written vertically means "beloved life", and written horizontally it reads "zetsumei", or "death"
  • Rin Itoshiki vertically means "beloved dignity", and written horizontally it reads "zetsurin", or "first class" (in slang this is used insultingly towards women, which is why Rin lost her temper)
  • Enishi Itoshiki written vertically means "beloved affinity", and written horizontally it reads "zetsuen", or "disowned" (he is never seen at all in the show, or even the manga comic till the very end)
  • Kei Itoshiki written vertically means "beloved glory", and written horizontally it reads "zetkkei", or "superb scenery" (according to the manga comic, he is an artist)
  • His father Hiroshi Itoshiki's name written vertically means "beloved generosity", and written horizontally it reads "zetsudai", or "immense"
  • His mother Tae Itoshiki's name written vertically means "beloved love", and written horizontally it reads "zetsumyo", or "exquisite".

The title "Miau Mae Ni Tobe" ("Leap Before You Lock Eyes") was taken from Kenzaburo Oe's novel "Miru Mae Ni Tobe" ("Leap Before You Look").

When Rin Itoshiki (Akiko Yajima) loses her temper, her voice becomes deeper and more aggressive. This is the voice Yajima uses for Kureyon Shin-chan (1992).

The Itoshiki marriage ritual ("miai") is a Japanese language pun. The "miai" is a Japanese matchmaking ceremony, but the term "" is also used to describe people looking at each other.

According to the manga, the butler Tokita is in face the master and the Itoshiki family are his servants, but he prefers it this way as he can manipulate the family and entertain himself at their expense.
