Space Ghost Coast to Coast: Explode (1996), which is referenced, was written by series creator Rob Thomas.

When Veronica (Kristen Bell) goes undercover at the Pastor's office and says she's pregnant she uses the name Hester. Hester Prynne is the main character of Der scharlachrote Buchstabe (1995). She is shunned for having an affair and becoming pregnant.

James Jordan plays Tim Foyle in this episode. In season two, in the episodes 2.18 Veronica Mars: I Am God (2006), 2.20 Veronica Mars: Look Who's Stalking (2006), and 2.21 Veronica Mars: Happy Go Lucky (2006), he played a different character, Lucky.

Even though we don't get a close look at Madison's mother (Amanda Noret), we can clearly see that it's not the same mother we met in 1.11 Veronica Mars: Silence of the Lamb (2005).

Veronica's (Kristen Bell) comment that witnessing Madison's (Amanda Noret) birthday has reminded her to get a birthday gift for Mac (Tina Majorino) is a callback to episode 1.11 Veronica Mars: Silence of the Lamb (2005). In that episode, Veronica discovered that after Madison and Mac were born only days apart in the same hospital, they were accidentally switched and sent home with the other's parents.

The title of this episode is a pun on a line from "The Morning After" sung by Maureen McGovern. "The Morning After" is the theme from Die Höllenfahrt der Poseidon (1972).

When Veronica (Kristen Bell) is using Tim Foyle's (James Jordan) computer, we can see his links history. While the majority of the mentioned sites are fake, some of them aren't. The legitimate sites include ASC - The American Society of Criminology, Books Beyond Borders, Green Apple, Inc., t r u t h o u t and Apple - Movie Trailers. "The Smoking Nun" is an obvious parody of the site The Smoking Gun (link), and "ZowiePedia" of Wikipedia.

Tim Foyle's (James Jordan) password is "DickTracy and his computer background is a shadow of Sherlock Holmes holding a pipe.

The promo for this episode was edited together to mislead the audience that Veronica (Kristen Bell) was pregnant.

Veronica (Kristen Bell) finds out the time of O'Dell's (Ed Begley Jr.) murder after a witness says he watched Space Ghost Coast to Coast (1993) at 2:30am. The episode title is Space Ghost Coast to Coast: Explode (1996), and is the 20th episode. It was also written by Rob Thomas.

Dick (Ryan Hansen) pursues Nadia Fisano (Amy Scott), who had earlier told him her name is Nadia Comaneci - the name of a famous Romanian gymnast.

When Keith (Enrico Colantoni) and Veronica (Kristen Bell) go to the Good Word Press Keith introduces them as Carson and Nancy Drew. Nancy Drew is a fictional book series about a teenage girl detective, and Carson Drew was her father.

A quote appears on Bonnie's (Carlee Avers) dorm board: "Complacent Reasoning establishes unrealistic reasoning" by Tom...(last name not shown).

This episode marks the final appearance of the character Madison Sinclair, played by Amanda Noret. She appeared in 10 episodes in total.

i really don't know why more people don't comment on this show or like it. i think its fresh unique and new. everyone should give it a chance, because if you do, you'll love it. thats what happened to me. i only started watching it this season and I've already bought all the other two seasons i love it. there is no other show out there like it. Kristen Bell is an amazing actress and she fits the character so well. her and her TV dad are a dynamic duo. They both bring a lot to the show. it's perfect to watch on Tuesday nights, right after Gilmore girls, a perfect girl power night! I highly recommend this show to anyone. It has the perfect crime scene/drama mix. I love crime scene shows but sometimes they're just too graphic for me. this show is the perfect mix, and it's got a great plot line. Veronica Mars is a great role model for young girls

the morning after pill only works to prevent pregnancy not terminate one. It will only work if you take it within 72 hours after *ex. What they were talking about is the abortion pill which will terminate the pregnancy. other than that the episode seems very interesting and i really hope they didn't end the series. just think about what they would replace it with. i also hope it's not another one of those troubled kid story or the guy who slept with his partner. personally i prefer this show more than others because you can learn things from it and it's more interesting and wholesome? well i guess there is not much teenage detective shows that is as good as this one.
