The drink 'The Old Man of Hoy' (Sylvester McCoy) drinks on the train when talking to Riley is a soft drink/soda called 'Irn Bru' (orange can) which would have been imported from Scotland. Irn Bru is also widely believed to be a hangover cure in Scotland.

The scenes from The Pride Festival were filmed at Sao Paolo.

During the filming at the LGBT Parade in São Paulo, in May 2016, Brazil was governed by former President Dilma Rousseff, who was undergoing an impeachment process. In the scene, that aired in May 2017, it is possible to see posters that reads "Golpe nunca mais" (coup never again!) and "Fora Temer!" (get out, Temer!). However, by the time the episodes went on air, Rousseff had already been deposed and Michel Temer had already taken the presidency of the country. In the first poster it can also be seen the mark of Rede Globo, the biggest television network in Brazil.

The title is always a phrase said by one of the characters in the episode. "Old Man of Hoy" says the line "Separated above, Connected Below." He says this when they Riley is asking him if it's possible to send a message to the other sensates. He says quicker than The internet and that in the 90's it was this group that created google. Just like the internet, when we aren't online through the myriads of social media accounts, emails, websites, and so on, we r very separate. But when we are connected through a series of (underground) wires, we are more connected than ever before in all of history.
