A Beauty Parlor Graduate (1913) Online

The young lawyer was rising rapidly in his profession, but as he grew more and more prosperous he could not help but be ashamed of his wife. She was a fresh young country girl when he married her, but in the city she did not seem to be able to make anything out of herself. Her dowdiness and utter lack of attraction when strangers were about incensed him, and after a number of "breaks" on her part, there was a quarrel. The husband wanted to know why she could not be stylish, and finally stormed out of the house, leaving her very unhappy indeed. The wife thought the matter over, however, and as she loved her husband, she decided to try and please him. Accordingly she ordered quantities of good clothes, went to a beauty parlor and was beautified within an inch of her life. The scenes inside the beauty parlor in this film possess quite an interest, particularly for women observers. The plain little wife decides to become beautiful to please the visiting uncle, but later discovers he does not care for frills. The idea is pleasing, but might have been handled a little stronger in some respects. - The Moving Picture World, December 20, 1913

Part of the ship-board entertainment on the U.S.S. Missouri (BB-11) on August 25, 1915. The ship was en route to Annapolis through the Panama Canal on a summer training voyage for the midshipmen.

My great-uncle was a midshipman on the voyage and kept a journal of his life aboard the U.S.S. Missouri that summer. In addition, he kept several pieces of ship-board memorabilia including the program for the "Homeward Bound Smoker and Entertainment" on August 25, 1915. It lists "Beauty Parlor Graduate" and "Fatty Joins the Force" each as a Moviograph that was part of the night's events. In his journal, he uses the term "movie" (his quotes) when writing about a film, so apparently he felt that Moviograph was the real name and "movie" was the colloquial version. Since even Google hasn't seen the term Moviograph, it must have been in use for a very short time at the start of the 20th century.
