A sketch during this program involved Carson falling through a breakaway door. Following the sketch, Carson explained the dangers of such falls. Many years ago, when Carson was one of Red Skelton's writers, during the last dress rehearsal of a prison skit on the day of the live program,, a breakaway wall through which Skelton's inmate character was supposed to escape, failed to break, causing great injuries to Skelton. Carson was called in shortly before the broadcast, writing his monologue in the car on his way to the studio, and substituted for the wounded Skelton, as guest host.
