Religious prejudice and racial dogmatism are the curse of Mohanpur, a backwater village out of touch with progress in the contemporary world. But, as depicted in the film Brihonnola, humanity has the strength to combat and neutralist the poisonous effects of these evils on the lives of the villagers.

Brihonnola was shortlisted for the National Film Awards, Bangladesh in best feature film category. But as the director and writer Murad Parvez took the story from the short story named "Gaach-ta Bolechilo" (The Tree had Told) by Indian Bengali author Syed Mustafa Siraj and did not acknowledged him. The author's son case a file against the director, so Government withdraw it's nomination and the grant.
