Dan improvised hints of a homosexual nature for his character throughout the film, but the subplot was cut after during the final edits. One shot remains of a man sitting in this lap in the cut. Other hints appear in the blooper reel.
Anderson Johnson, who plays the police officer, was the acting teacher/ director of several of the film's stars at New Jersey City University.
Writer Sam Platizky wrote the screenplay with most of the actors he wanted to play the roles in mind. That is why most of the characters share the names of the actors.
Cast and crew were stopped by police, and told to stop filming, after someone called them because they saw the cast walking down Kennedy Blvd. in Bayonne, NJ with weapons.
Sam wrote "Blaming George Romero" following the writing of another zombie screenplay he wrote but did not have money to produce. Following "Blaming George Romero," the cast and crew went on to film the zombie comedy "Red Scare." That leaves only Sam's first zombie screenplay to complete his "Zombie Trilogy."
There is a brief scene from a B&W Horror movie (that would later become Red Scare) in the movie. This scene was not in the original script, and when it was added, Sam Platizky and Christina Garced were not supposed to play the characters in it. Writer/Producer Sam Platizky didn't like the director's idea to have other actors play the roles, and then have a flash of Sam & Christina at the end of the scene, so he decided that they would play the roles completely.
Several other directors were approached to direct "Blaming George Romero," but could not take on a feature length film in the summer of 2010. Bill Dautrick, who was first approached, went on to direct "Red Scare" instead.
"Blaming George Romero" is writer Sam Platizky's first produced screenplay, and the third screenplay he ever wrote. Several ideas and even some dialogue from his first screenplay, "Bored," appear in "Blaming George Romero."
Loarina Gonzalez still wears her prop "WWBCD?" bracelet to this day. It stands for "What Would Bruce Campbell Do?" and was put in the movie to give a fun gift to people who donated to the movie through Indiegogo.
"Blaming George Romero" was an Official Selection at the 2011 Bergenfield Film Festival & the 2011 Golden Door International Film Festival.
