Dissection (2012) Online

A commentary on contemporary genre cinema where two guys dissect the films of their youth.
Credited cast:
Tom Caine Tom Caine - Guest (as Thomas Caine)
Rick Chaplin Rick Chaplin - Cinema Patron (On Tape)
Michelle Hodgman Michelle Hodgman - Beautiful Young Female (On Tape)
Paul Howett Paul Howett - Cinema Attendant (On Tape)
Kieran O'Sullivan Kieran O'Sullivan - Resident

Kieran O'Sullivan joined the production a mere week prior to the re-shoot.

The screenplay's location was originally a video store then changed to a cinema foyer before finally becoming a living room.

The two lead characters in the first few drafts had an employee/annoying customer relationship, with the shift in location setting came the change in dynamic between the leads.

The posters lining the living room walls are Australian Daybills, posters that were produced exclusively for the original Australian release of films.

The film was originally shot at The Astor Theatre but due to technical difficulties it had to be re-shot, unfortunately budget and time constraints prevented the production from re-shooting at that location. A brief snippet of footage can be seen on the VHS tape prior to the feature 'A Cut Above'.

The Matthew Modine film 'A Cut Above' referenced in the dialogue of the short is actually Gross Anatomy (1989). 'A Cut Above' was it's original Australian video release title.

Der Bat

Der Bat

A great little short that 'dissects' some old and new horror films with a twist. Loved the main guy's reasoning when certain movies were mentioned.

I even paused it a few times to read some of the movies which lined the walls in the background as there were so many great titles.

This was an unusual concept for a short movie idea as it could have quite easily become a full feature.

Would enjoy to see what this writer/director does next as he seems to have original ideas, unlike what's coming out of Hollywood these days and all their remakes.
