Robert Vance (the grandfather) was seen in his younger days in the Justice League Unlimited episode Justice League Unlimited: Task Force X (2005) as an engineer on the JLU space station who was secretly a spy working for the U.S. Government Cadmus program.

Stacey Keach, who voices Robert Vance, also voice Carl Beaumont/The Phantasm in Batman: Mask of the Phantasm.

The newscaster in the opening prologue is clearly Summer Gleeson, who apparently hasn't aged since the years of the original Batman.

It's possible that Robert Vance got the idea of transferring himself into Batman's Batsuit from when Brainiac downloaded into Lex Luthor's body (in the Superman: The Animated Series episode "Ghost in the Machine" and the Justice League Unlimited episode "Divided We Fall").

Terry McGinnis fighting the Batsuit is strikingly similar to the dream fight between Bruce Wayne and Batman in the Batman: The Animated Series episode "Perchance to Dream".
