Jack Gordon, a private detective, becomes interested in a mysterious murder, which has baffled the police. Warren, a wealthy widower, whose hobby is music, has been shot to death in his home one night while playing Chopin's "Seventh Prelude." Only two people are in the house at the time, Alice Warren, his pretty daughter, and James Cummings, her uncle. Warren's will contains a provision appointing Cummings executor of the Warren fortune and guardian of Alice, she being under age. To this Alice objects absolutely, and Cummings can do nothing. This two-part photoplay, written by Lillian Bennet-Thompson, is an unusually interesting detective story, but reminds one somewhat of Sherlock Holmes and his pal, Dr. Watson. A wealthy man is shot while playing Chopin's "Seventh Prelude" and it keeps one guessing as to who fired the shot. A detective examines the Warren mansion and after a desperate struggle, catches the culprit. It holds the attention of the audience all through. The photography is very clear throughout, both the interior and exterior scenes. The acting is beyond criticism. - The Moving Picture World, August 15, 1914
