The basic plot of this film is that three people wake up trapped inside a metal room, with no means of escape and no idea how they got there. All that's in the room is a table and chairs, jug of water and three cups and lastly a strange metal box.

When I first read about this film, I thought it sound like the 1997 low budget film "Cube" However I was glad when I started watching it that it took a different route.

The majority of the movie is played out in one room, this being said it needed 3 strong performances from the actors. Elly Jaresko was equal to the task, and easily the most accomplished actor of the three.

The runtime is given as 88 minutes, but if you take out the credits it's actually 70 minutes. Given how short the film was it felt to me more like I was watching an episode of "The Twilight Zone" or "The Outer Limits".

This is not too bad a thing as I found the film enjoyable. The ending has a twist in the tale, no actually two. The first one pays off, but the second one left me wondering what the point was.

So all in all this film is not the best and is certainly not the worst. If you want something slightly different than your Hollywood blockbusters then check it out

I watched the movie because the concept seemed interesting (something similar to No Exit). However, the idea was ruined by terrible acting and writing. The acting was unbelievable (a strange mix of extreme over-acting and extremely wooden delivery). Of course, a part of this my be caused by the clumsy scripting that appeared to be written by 6th grader (strange phrasing, non sequitors, etc.). The motivations and actions of the characters are not logically consistent within the film. One major concept in the movie is that there are three names that appeared scrambled on the box. The first one is traced by each person, but only reacts to one of them. The second one is traced by each, but it only reacts to one of the other people. Now, using logic, which person would you get to trace the third name? There are parts of the movie that aren't explained by the "twist". For example, where did weapons suddenly come from. The movie made it appear that the weapons magically appeared in their hands the moment they remembered using such a weapon. Also, for the first part of the movie there was a disturbing noise that got louder to increase the tension. However, nothing ever came of that and it was never explained. Why is there the memory wipe? Wouldn't the punishment be more effective if they could feel remorse for their actions? If they were not supposed to torture themselves with guilt, why include the pictures of the people they murdered? Or the big question, why even have the box in the first place?

Overall, the only thing that keeps the movie from getting a 1 from me is that it didn't look so bad. The props looked solid and the set design was crisp. I liked the look. Otherwise, a complete waste of time. I want that 1 hour of my life back!

And that's just one of the problems of this film. You see, films like these stand and fall with their idea, the twist ending, the surprise explanation. But this one makes little sense and leaves too many questions unanswered. It's not even possible to tell whether the story is taking place in the present or in the future.

Other major problems include the acting (which is practically non-existent), the unnatural dialogues (they feel artificial) and the length of the film (although it claims to be almost 90 minutes long, its actual length is only 70 minutes; the rest - almost 20 minutes - are end credits).

Don't get me wrong, I can appreciate a good low-budget independent film, but 'Shadowplay' is not one of them. Avoid.

i honestly thought this was one of the worst movies i ever seen in my life, and i have seen plenty of low budget movies.. i watch just about one every single night and i enjoy most of them, but this one was just horrible, the movie didn't make any sense at all to me, if anyone else got it and can explain the point of the box, and crap feel free to let me know because this was just plain garbage.. what a waste of time, i wouldn't recommend this movie to anyone even if you are just bored and are looking to pass some time by, pretty much they sit in the same room with a box that makes no sense, and they have flash backs of themselves killing people, that is about all i got from the movie.
