Anna Is Being Stalked (2002) Online

Anna is followed everywhere she goes by a creepy pale assailant with a knife. She doesn't seem to be very afraid. She marches coldly through her day, ignoring him, going about her business. Her stalker looks threatening but his manner seems to suggest that he is just a confused social outcast, trapped in an obsessive, repetitive rut that revolves around Anna. It becomes clear that the line between assailant and victim has begun to break down and that the roles in this relationship are now unclear. Anna has begun to rely on her stalker's presence. She even allows him to carry her groceries. Is the albino stalking her or watching over her? Anna obtains a retraining order against her stalker but she still worries about him, huddled outside her home on a cold, windy night. Neither of them seem able to disrupt or end their oddly comforting, creepy codependent relationship.

I love this weird, twisted style of humor. This short succeeds in capturing an almost dark (but not quite) hilarious moment, when so many other shorts fail. This is a classic, though unfortunately probably won't be seen by many.

This absurd little short film is actually quite well done and is a joy to watch. In its brief length it does a nice job of letting you get to know just enough about both characters to enjoy the story. I also enjoyed some of the "alphabet city" locations as I am quite familiar with the neighborhood and its interesting to see films that include locales that you know so well.

This film succeeds well as a little film experiment and I look forward to seeing more by this filmmaker.

I caught ANNA while down at the San Diego Film Festival and it stole the show along with two other shorts. People were tapping shoulders to make sure everyone knew something good was on and I concur. The film, like her stalker, follows her about as she simply trudges on with the knowledge there is an albino stalker who is incoherent, mumbles "happy Birthday" to everything and is obviously nore frightened of her than the opposite. You know the film is working when the stalker character tells Anna he is going to kill her and the audience laughs because this poor, disabled sycophant obviously is harmless and Anna simply, exhautedly remarks, "I know."
