James May returns for a festive special. A surprise as many of us thought he would now be lost to Amazon.

What any boy would love the most in the 1970s would be a Scalextric. I guess that would be next year's Christmas special, here May is assembling a Hornby train set, all 138 tiny components of it.

May tells us how he got a second hand set as a kid and he is putting together the Hornby Flying Scotsman with the chuffing sounds recreated by a piece of sand paper.

May goes through the history of Hornby rail sets and how the lineage descended from the plastic train sets made by Tri-ang who brought the company in the 1960s.

Well it took some hours but the train set was re-assembled and it did work. Rather him than me though.
