The story takes place in 1920s southern United States and follows the son of a family of landlords looking to arrange a marriage between him and the daughter of another family of landlords to maximize their control of the land and by extension their profits. The son, however, does not want to go through with the marriage and in secret regularly meets with and makes love to his true lover, an African American woman who is the daughter of a poor family of tenant farmers who work on the property the son's family owns. Among the crops the woman works on are peaches. In the video when the two meet in secret they are transported to a surreal fantasy-like state where everything is vibrant and colorful. Eventually, even though the two are fiercely in love with each other, the woman suggests to the son that they should not see each other anymore because society will not accept them being together and that it will never work out for them in the long run.
