After Travis's efforts to save Nate end up in the death of Nate's brother, Chris, the police begin to investigate the events surrounding the deaths. Been reading IMDb reviews for years, but this is the First review I've done. No spoilers here, just an opinion. I saw a number of reviews giving praise to this movie, so thought I'd give it a go. Not nearly as good as I thought it would be, or even could be. But it really wasn't a trainwreck either. Not sorry I watched it, I mean The first half hour or so actually had my stomach kinda knotting up with tension, but then...... Interesting take on Bigfoot, but it kinda fell flat, for me anyway. It was done well, but it just seems to have missed the mark of reaching what could have been a very good film. Acting was definitely not A-list grade, pacing was okay, atmosphere was there, tension and fear were absolutely there for the first half-hour. All in all, not a bad trip to take on a Saturday night.

I did the big mistake and rented this movie after reading some reviews describing this movie as one of the best horror/thriller ever made well it was one of the best trash/waste of time movies that was ever made this movie suffer from a lot like the bad acting / cheesy dialogues i don't even know why it was listed as horror/thriller , if they mean the one shot where some guys dressing as gorillas standing in shadows well it won't scare even my little kitty ,and what about thrill ??? if they mean the plot ? we already saw tens of movies with similar plot nothing new here , no thrill at all . why this movie has high rating , why there is many good reviews about it? i don't know , but i know one thing that this movie was a complete waste of time , avoid it at all costs . Awful .

OK so straight off the film was originally called Travis because the main character is called Travis. That gives you some insight as to the thinking level of the writer.

Movie starts with hand held camera so I'm thinking found footage but I was wrong and that's just to set the scene.

So short intro bit with added gratuitous boob shot and 15 minutes later the opening credits. Like what the hell?? This film is in no way good enough for many people to even make it to the opening credits.

On to the main points. Kid is telling story in flash back mode of how he went to a party and all these kids vanished but he left before that happened. A Year later and he's on a road trip with his best friend to Canada. Stop at creepy gas station because all gas stations are creepy and get served by low budget guy that's trying his best to be Robert Englund and failing badly. The fact that Robert Englund himself makes very low budget films and wasn't in this should again serve as a sign of how bad this is.

Creepy guy gives directions for short cut which they take even though it's all signposted that the road is closed because stupid is as stupid does. In the interest of saving time I shall fire through a few facts to keep this a bit shorter.

A group of big foot attack kids in car. One goes missing the other goes back to gas station and listens to long story from creepy guy. Goes back into woods with first guys brother. Big foot attacks happen again. Brother is killed. Flash forward and guy is back to telling his story. Good cop bad cop situation ensues and bad cop says it's all in the guys head and that he was the killer and he probably killed the seven kids from the party at the beginning of the film. Here we have our second shot of boobs because even the boobs appear in a cops idea as to what goes on. Guy isn't arrested though because you know evidence is a thing and there isn't any.

Movie ends with guy driving back to the woods again and doing the whole "I'm gonna prove I'm telling the truth" speech to a video camera and stands waiting to be attacked. A sound is heard and credits roll. This leaves the audience to decide if it was him or if the big foot are real. However at this stage I'm sure nobody cares and are all just happy that it's over and that they can move along.

Why are movies so bad these days? I don't get it. This is a z-movie. The most scariest thing in this flick is this boob job gone wrong. Boy, I have never seen such misplaced boobies!!! True shocker.

One can foresee the coming events...Lost shoes in the woods, there is screaming, there is running involved, a cabin in the wild, two idiots and guns...boring boring, not worth money nor time. I even haven't got enough words to describe how terrible this movie is to submit my review. There is really nothing worth mentioning about this flick. Nothing sticks out.

In my humble opinion, I recommend to sink yourself into a good series instead of this...."film"

Alright, so yes this is another "B" grade horror flick. Yes the scripting could have been better, yes there's over acting, yes it might look a little like someone rubbed onion juice in the lead actors eyes. And yes, the monsters do look somewhat like extras dressed up in beige off cuts, from the local carpet factory.

That said, if you can put these perceived shortcomings aside, this is not a bad little "B"igfoot horror flick. The acting from the lead actor, if you can put the teary eyed thing aside, is actually pretty good. He hands in an above average performance, as in fact, do most of the cast. The scripting is patchy but there's enough creativity on offer here, to make this flick quite watchable. Some of the jokes are pretty darn good too.

Where this film really shines though, is it does manage to pull off some reasonable scares. Its not terrifying but in the opening and closing scenes its actually does give you goose bumps and raise a few hairs on the back of the neck. There's a couple of good jump scares on offer too.

So once again little B-movie-ville manages to do better than its Hollyweed, oops I mean Hollywood, counterparts. Well done guys. I hope you make a sequel! Seven out of ten from me.

Post graduation Nate (Nathaniel Peterson) and Travis (Adam Pitman) decide to drive up to party in Canada because the lone hot tub in Columbia Falls, Montana can only hold so many people. At a grocery store they get alternate directions, i.e. a shortcut to Canada which they follow. Then BAM! We get the DVD cover and one missing teen, and another injured shortly followed by a unique Sasquatch explanation, kudos on the BS, I really liked it.

The film starts out like it was going to be found footage and then smartly shifts. The characters were not written to be colorful and Adam Pitman was not an exciting victim to watch. Makes for a good Utz potato chip product placement. Kent Harper came across well in his role.

Not going to lie, I enjoyed this.

I actually liked the concept of 2 guys getting lost, and stumble upon something grave, and dangerous that is hidden.

It is handled VERY well imo. Nothing too terrible. It isn't a SCARY horror. It made me care about the main character(s) a lot, which was well done. There wasn't any real jump scares but the concepts were well done well .

Sure their is SOME bad acting, but it is a well made small budget movie that is never boring. Solid 8 1/2 out of 10 from me.

I didn't even make it five minutes into the movie. I should have read the reviews before renting it. If you are the type of person who does not like the home movie effect, or found footage style movie, then this movie is a waist of your time. It really isn't even a class B movie. It is more like a class fail, that is why there was only one copy for rent at Family Video. It looks like 5th graders put it together. If 5th graders had actually directed and edited this movie, I could have given it 4 stars for effort. I would not recommend this movie to anyone. If you try watching, "The Sighting" don't hope for much. This movie was a desperate attempt that failed.

I saw this originally at a festival in 2008 and had been searching for years, I'm so thrilled to have found it on amazon prime albeit under a different title. The Paper Dolls that I remembered was still just as good under the title Black Forest, a refreshing take on the theory of Sasquatch with some really well developed plot twists and red herrings. For a low budget film this should worry Hollywood, thouroghly enjoyed this and highly recommend.
Dorintrius

Dorintrius

BLACK FOREST sounds like a fun Bigfoot horror flick on the outside but on closer inspection it's a cheap-as-chips indie horror film with very little horror content and merely a few seconds of Bigfoot action. It's more like a small town drama with mystery elements as a witness to a crime becomes involved with various hostile townsfolk. There's little here aside from lots of wooden acting and it's as dull as they come.

It's rare that we see such a new and original take on an old story. The Sasquatch myth has been around forever, but this film gives us a whole new way to look at it. I can't say too much without giving anything away, but I can definitely recommend this film.

After the film was over, and on the entire drive home, we had a heated discussion in the car about various aspects within the film.

From David Blair's frat-boy like performance in the beginning, to Kent Harper's completely believable portrayal of a demented, but curious recluse, all the characters were well acted and believable. Mostly, however, Adam Pitman was a shining star. The range of emotions he went through not only highlighted his acting talent, they made the whole story, through the twisted turns and trails it takes, completely believable.

To anyone considering picking up distribution, you'd be a fool not to. To those who know of a showing near you, go see it. You won't be sorry (but you might be scared.) I was afraid of Sasquatch (don't call him Bigfoot) when I was a kid. After seeing this film, that fear is creeping back up on me.

Kudos on a well-written, well-acted, well-produced, and high-quality piece.

I think I may have seen most of the Sasquatch/Bigfoot horrors ever made- I've even ordered the most obscure titles in search of more. They are almost uniformly terrible, but I don't regret watching a single one of them. I place "Travis (aka The Sighting)" in the middle of the pack in terms of a specialized "Sasquatch rating system." It's nowhere near as good as Willow Creek, Exists, or any Sasquatch film starring the great Lance Henriksen (and there are several). But it's much, much better than the lower end of the Sasquatch spectrum. The first half of "Travis" is appealing, largely because of the good acting by Nathaniel Peterson, who plays the protagonist's best friend and road trip buddy. I enjoyed this film quite a bit up until the first sighting- the special effects are poor, but that's to be expected in a low budget outing. The second half of the film suffers from poor acting in the "scientist scenes," although a novel and interesting theory of the Sasquatch is offered. Sasquatch maniacs may enjoy this film- I did- but I doubt anyone else would.

Canada's a terrifying place. From poutine to ketchup flavored potato chips the country's a wretched hive of scum and villainy. Case in point, the basement-dwelling gas station attendants who lure unsuspecting road-trippers into taking quasi-legal border crossing routes in hopes of getting them accosted by..... Oh, wait. That guy was American. Whatever. Stay out of Canada, man.

Because Bigfoots.

Bigfeet?

Sasquatches. Sasquatchi? C'mon, you know what I mean! Canada kills.

Yes, this is a low budget movie. The acting is sub-par, the story requires a healthy dose of Suspension of Disbelief and/or plain ol' Just Roll With It, and the "special effects" consist of carpet suits and Karo syrup, but this one's got something special.

Admittedly, I was thoroughly irritated with the leading man right from the start. "To all that's holy in Canada, please let Bigfoot eat him first," I prayed. But he grows on ya. I suspect he may have Micheal Ironside Disease. It only works if he's a bad guy? In any case, just suck it up and pretend he's Rutger Hauer or something.

I'm not going to lie. The majority of this film is laughable. They spend 15 minutes before the credits roll setting up stuff that the rest of the film barely acknowledges. I mean, it tries. But it's like one of the writers' little brothers wanted to play, too, so their Big Bro said "You've got 15 minutes, go for it."

BUT (and that's a big but), don't let the low rating and terrible reviews scare you off. This film (and I still use the term lightly) has the potential to grow beyond itself. I'm legitimately shocked that nobody's referenced the wonderful Psycho shower scene homage. Not to mention the clever, split-screen 911 scene -- just to name a couple highlights. And of course the flip from creature feature to psychological thriller and back!

Yes. Absolutely. This is a terrible movie. You'll probably hate the main character and you'll probably wonder where everyone else went. That being said, though, grab a few beers, sit down with your B-Movie Crüe, and watch it. You won't be sorry.

OK, I just ejected the DVD, and I'm just gonna start writing some thoughts.

Wow.

Good job, Badfritter films. Lots of good things about what could have been a terrible movie. Somehow you managed to avoid a load of opportunities to screw it up! It doesn't give anything away to say I like the ending. If it turned out the way I suspected, I was gonna be disappointed. But you went a little further, and muddied that tidy ending up. Good move. I think the average joe will have different opinions as to what really happened. That's good. You want people to ponder after the film, so thoughts linger. You find yourself wanting to go back and look at the film again for hidden clues.

Also, you used techniques of the older classic horror movies that work. It made me think of the classic 1950's horror film, THE THING, which never clearly showed the monster, to GREAT effect. You probably know that movie? The trick is to not show enough of the creature to make viewers go, "What cheap special effects." , but you DO show enough of the creature to ignite the imagination and let the viewer fill in the blanks, which makes for much more effective psychological horror. And that's exactly what you did. Another good decision. The problem with modern horror is that there's no mystery anymore, with excellent special effects that show every detail. You wisely avoided that.

Do I have any critical thoughts?.....Well, the opening sequence is very misleading. Maybe that's a good thing, maybe not. It's full of partying teenagers, etc and the first thing that went through my head was, "Oh, this is gonna be one of those movies where there's hints of teen sex, that get interrupted by slashing until all the characters are dead. Great, another one of those predictable movies." I was so relieved when the movie moved away from that. As soon as the 2 guys were on the road, the movie changed, and it was a different film altogether. It's good that happens early in the movie, because as a film rental, you might lose people before the movie gets going, and they might pop the thing out and not watch it all. But it changes from teen-slasher -film so early that it still keeps you in, and interested. (Yes, there's gratuitous gore here and there, but you didn't over-do it, or under-do it. I don't like gore films, but I can take it.) The main guy who plays Travis is a good actor, and the other dude that plays his friend does fine as well. He's a little annoying, as he should be. The guy who plays the Sasquatch crypto expert is VERY good. It's his behavior that I studied for clues as to what really happened.

As an artist, I also liked the fact that Travis was nervously sketching and writing in his journal all the time, and surrounded by art in his room. Also, the chalkboard art depicting the history of Sasquatch was very good. Art and writing is a big factor of the main character in this film. Scary!

The lead actor had the strangest look on his face throughout much of the movie kinda like he smelt a bad fart or something, really really of-putting and somehow annoying at the same time. just couldnt get past it.

apart from the weird look, the movie itself just wasnt scary in the least

watch it just for the fart face

This is one of those movies that finds you curled against the back of your sofa, alternately peaking through your fingers and pointing at the screen.

For their first major foray, the BadFritters have proved there's much more to their work than just hopes and dreams. Paper Dolls reflects a subtle, strong talent that's solidifying in the BadFritter team. (See previous film Roulette.)

Combining acting, scriptwriting, directing and producing, (yes, if you read the credits, they did them all) the team balances and merges with impressive savvy and subtlety. With Paper Dolls they created a horror film that takes us back to the days when horror films were... just that... but also brought a refreshing depth to the familiar, making us scream our pants off with glee while wondering if it isn't just all in our head.

The film is a psychological thriller that will have you wondering but will be answered IF you watch and listen to the end credits... don't turn it off until the end credits are finished rolling for the final answer to what happened.

The film is has a question mark over it during viewing: Are there really Sasquatch or has Travis just lost his mind and murdered his friends? Not a bad film at all - I did enjoy watching it until the very end. If you like films about the Sasquatch then you might like this one. BTW, please don't upset the professor by calling it Bigfoot. lol ;) 7/10

The Sighting is about Bigfoot attacks in the Montana woods. In this story, there is a tribe of Bigfoots rather than one. Two guys are trying to cross the border at night when they first see them. Some exposition is piped in and the attacks continue for several more scenes. The main character survives and the police suspect that he faked the attacks and killed the other people he was with. It seems like it's heading towards one of those endings where everything we were seeing was the delusions of the murderer, killing without realizing it. However, they give an open-ended finish in which the main character sets up a camera and waits by the woods. The idea is that he's so distraught that people don't believe him that he's willing to die to prove the creatures are real. That's actually a more clever ending than anyone would expect from everything that came before. It seemed like everything would be complete clichés and reused tropes. They actually go so far as to throw in a visual homage to the Psycho shower scene, replicating some the quick-cut shots. As far as the acting, I didn't think it was bad so much as strange. People spoke with such unusual timing and cadence that something just felt off. Overall, I would say this is one to skip. Not goofy enough to be enjoyed for its ineptitude, and no clear shots of the creatures, who look like dudes with strips of fur hanging off of them.

I came out of an extremely enthusiastic screening of this movie at the Fright Night Film Festival and immediately struck up a conversation with others there about what a great film we had just seen. It really is one of the best horror movies of the past few years. It has a deceptively clever script with interesting characters and unexpected plot twists. I'm a person who can usually figure out where a movie is headed, but this one kept me guessing. It's part mystery, part monster-movie, and part psychological thriller. It's very well directed and all the performances are terrific, especially Adam Pitman and Nathaniel Peterson as best friends who go on a fateful road trip toward Canada. Critics have deservedly praised this film and have referred to this as a "Big Foot" movie, but even that label is as misleading as its deceptively gentle title. Above all, it's a grade-A independent horror film that succeeds on every level.

The opening of the movie was awesome. The mysterious creatures lurking in the trees...

I loved the professor...way creepy. Didn't know if he was good or bad...loved that! I liked the part where the teacher was writing on the chalk board and the pictures were drawn out on the chalkboard. Cool effect.

The police officers did a great job. The theory that the main character did it was cool.

I love title and how it links back to the Sasquatch all lined up and ready to attack!!! Good job!

I'm not kidding when I say this is one of my favorite horror films to date, this film was just awesome. I am an old school horror film all the way. I hate just about any film that comes out anymore, they lack originality. If it's not a remake, it's a rip off. Finally though, something original has arrived. There is nothing like Paper Dolls, I can't compare it to any other film out there. I don't know how it's not in theaters, but do what you can to see it, you will not regret it. I have yet to see their other film, Roulette, but I would suggest seeing that as well if you can. The creators of Paper Dolls are very original and creative. Anything they make, their vision and creative shows.

Have you ever been lost in the Montana Woods? I have and it's no fun. Panic and fear is just below the surface of rational thought. Throw in a Sasquatch and a history of mental illness and you have a story of sheer terror. Great characters, excellent acting, artistic filming in the wilderness of the woods and the psyche. The truth in this story is not so important as the setting and the possibilities of the truth. The consequences of getting lost in a place where no one can see you, find you, or help you is Nate's problem. Whether the monsters decapitated him or Travis pummeled him to death doesn't really matter because the setting makes all things possible. That is what this movie is all about. If you get lost in the Montana woods you will experience fear, panic, and a paranoia that you are not alone. And no one will ever hear you cry out in pain.

Saw 'The Sighting' being fond of horror/thriller regardless of budget (even if not my favourite genre) and being intrigued somewhat by the idea. Despite there being a lot of bad Bigfoot/Sasquatch films, examples of the worst being from SyFy, it is always interesting to have a film involving them and there are the odd entertaining ones too.

'The Sighting' is yet another example of how not to do it and is an awful film on its own. There are definitely far worse Bigfoot/Sasquatch films, but that is hardly an endorsement and the film lives up to its taglines and not in a good way at all. Everything that makes the worst Bigfoot/Sasquatch films bad is present here, appreciate its attempts at bringing a more psychological element to the story but very little is done with it and certainly not in a way that is illuminating or interesting.

Adam Pitman fares the least badly. Not just in the otherwise terrible acting (Kent Harper is dull and histrionic and David Blair overdoes it to annoyance, much of it is badly over-acted) but he is also the best thing about the film.

It's a poor looking film, especially in the excessively nausea-inducing camera work that gives amateurishness a bad thing. The obvious, cheap and badly balanced sound editing really cheapens the mood. The titular creature is utilised poorly, with repetitive, tension-free and borderline cheesy attacks in far too infrequent and brief appearances, as well as the terribly goofy look. Nothing to fear here.

Dialogue is stilted and cheesy, with far too many misplaced jokes that misfire catastrophically, and the story is dull, predictable, dumb and devoid of any kind of sense or logic let alone tension or suspense.

Characters are both underdeveloped and annoying stereotypes, with stupid character behaviours. The actors struggle with little to do, the direction is pedestrian and it's all tension and fun free with nothing new or interesting to say. The ending is a non-event and the film even throws in gratuitous nudity at hardly appropriate times.

Overall, unbelievably awful and best left unseen. 1/10 Bethany Cox

I'll start by saying the only reason I rated it a 2 instead of a 1 is because anytime I see a movie made without any kind of budget I will never rate it a 1 because they are trying regardless. I reserve my 1 ratings for movies that have a big budget and are backed by a studio. Something like the Blair witch project. I don't understand how people like that movie. It is so boring.. but onto this movie. How anyone would ever and I mean EVER give this movie a high rating or say how scared they were are either the dumbest people or people that can't go outside of their room without crapping themselves because their footstep was too loud. The only other reason would be because they are either involved with the film or know someone that was. Just trust me if you enjoy watching movies or even just staring at absolutely nothing, you'd be a million times better off staring at a blank screen for a couple days than trying to get through this movie. You could even hate staring at nothing and still be better off doing so. Ughhhhh I wish I never watched this pile of garbage and I hope that my review can save someone from doing the same.

well i thought this movie was excellent.and it was until some point the movie starts with a man recording a party. OK i passed that strange think and went on the following 1 hour the movie was excellent, not to creepy but also not to peaceful.there was action and creativity.i can tell i was something like excited because after much time i had found a movie which is worth seeing.and then the ending came...the last 15 minutes destroyed Literally all the movie.the movie ended with the boy dying full of desperation because after all the things he lived loosing 2 of his best friends. also the ending shows the policewoman going in the cave and the movie ending.at this point i think that everyone understood that the policewoman was caught buy the Sasquatch and obviously got killed.so in what does this ending lead to.the policeman and Travis father keep thinking that Travis is crazy and that he is the murderer and the policewoman dies into that deep cave unable to tell the policeman that the boy tells the truth and that the Sasquatch are real.also if the woman is dead the policeman will be unable to find the dead Sasquatch so again he will believe a story kinda "Travis killed the policeman and then he committed suicide".so the ending will be with the boy and the policewoman dead with Travis being a murderer in the eyes of this fool policeman.personally if i was the writer i would give an ending like "the boy does not commit suicide.the policewoman finds the Sasquatch and immediately takes him into the police station.the policemen identify his DNA so the boy is innocent and happy again.after that the police could go to the cave with many men and kill or put these things to cages so Canada finds his peace again.anyway this was a nice movie but the ending destroyed her.if it was happy ending i would give this movie 10 stars for sure
