Much to the disapproval of many fans of the comic, Wolverine is portrayed with an Australian accent. Ironically, the role would be played years later by Australian actor Hugh Jackman to great acclaim.
Funding for this pilot came from the budget for RoboCop (1988). Instead of making a 13th episode of RoboCop, Marvel Productions decided to use their funding to have Toei Animation produce the animation for this pilot instead.
The series for which this pilot was intended to launch never materialized. Shortly after this pilot was delivered, Marvel started having financial issues and stopped work on just about everything but Les Muppet Babies (1984).
Frank Welker, Neil Ross and Dan Gilvezan had previously worked on Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends (1981). Gilvezan had played Spider-Man, Welker had played Iceman, and Ross had played Wolverine.
"Pryde of the X-Men" was intended to be the test pilot for X-Men (1992).
The title "Pryde of the X-Men" is a double pun, both on Kitty Pryde's last name and the movie The Pride of the Yankees (1942)
According to story editor Rick Hoberg, he gave Wolverine an Australian accent due to the Australian fad going on at the time, and it was planned for Logan to be Australian in the comics. However, Logan instead remained a Canadian.
This pilot was the last entry and effectively ended the animated Marvel Universe by DePatie-Freleng Enterprises/Marvel Productions which started with The Fantastic Four (1978).
This is the only time that Dazzler has been a member of the X-Men in an animated feature.
This is not the 1st time the X-Men appeared on in a animated special. They also made an appearance in episodes of the show "Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends" and one episode of "the Sub-Mariner"
