The quest "Dead Man's Party" is based on The Wedding, a stage-play by Stanislaw Wyspianski, a 19/20th century Polish drama writer.

The whole quest arc with Olgierd von Everec having sold his soul to Gaunter O'Dim for special abilities is a reference to a Polish legend of Pan Twardowski. Like Olgierd, Twardowski was a nobleman who sold his soul to the devil in exchange for great knowledge and magical powers. However, Twardowski wanted to outwit the devil by including a special clause in the contract, stating that the devil could only take Twardowski's soul to Hell during his visit to Rome - a place the sorcerer never intended to go. The devil eventually tricked Twardowski to meet him in an inn called Rome. Similar trick was used by Gaunter O'Dim to trick Olgierd to meet him "on the moon" - a mosaic on the floor of a ruined temple. Moon was also a final destination of Twardowski, who escaped the devil mid-way to hell.

During the auction house break-in there is a possible hostage situation. During dialog with the guards Geralt tutors the guards "not to say 'no' in a hostage situation". This is a direct reference to the film Verhandlungssache (1998), where Samuel L. Jackson's character does the same thing.

The quest, where Geralt has to break in to an auction house vault with the help of a safe-cracker or demolitions expert and a master thief is a reference to Ocean's Eleven (2001).

Inside the auction house there is an artifact called "The Goblet of Fire", this is a clear reference to the fourth Harry Potter book.

One of the treasure hunts is called "Tinker, Hunter, Soldier, Spy". A reference to John le Carré's novel "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy".

If at the end of his main quest in the expansion pack Geralt opts for the so-called bad ending and decides to let Olgierd to his grim fate, O'Dimm takes Olgierd's soul and then offers Geralt to make a wish as payment for his services to O'Dimm. Geralt can then choose one of several perks for his character or ask O'Dimm to tell him where Ciri is. Claiming that she is even out his reach (a reference to the fact that Ciri's hiding on the Isle of Mists that shields her from anyone who tries to sense where she is), O'Dimm instead tells Geralt in an indirect way how to pass all five check marks in Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt that determine Ciri's ultimate fate as well as which of the three endings the player will get.

I had last year a Witcher marathon, playing everything from the first game to Blood & Wine. Every Witcher game is enjoyable and a real gem to its kind, while being extraordinary and quite different from the others.

Witcher 1 had a unique story, Witcher 2 had the best war story, Witcher 3 had a more sentimental main story and Blood & Wine is slow-paced but rewarding. Hearts Of Stones is...well...AN INSANE EXPERIENCE INSPIRED BY FAIRYTALES AND NOT ONLY! It has the best pacing of every Witcher game, some of the most interesting characters and INSANE BOSS FIGHTS!

In a nutshell, if you did not like the main campaign, get on both magnificent dlc's that are by far superior to the main story.
