Le Mans: Racing Is Everything Night Riders (2017– ) Online

Mark Webber sits in the pits serving his co-driver's penalty. For an F1 champ used to working alone, it's a harsh test of team spirit - can Webber forgive his teammate for a blunder that could cost him the race? Porsche turns their hopes to their #19 car, driven by Le Mans rookies Earl Bamber, Nick Tandy and Nico Hülkenberg. The journey to Le Mans hasn't been easy for Bamber, who just a couple of years prior was sleeping on couches and working as a driving instructor. Now it's make-or-break time for the young driver who has reigning champion Audi #7 hot on his heels. Meanwhile, Rebellion battle with exhaustion and electrical problems, as their driver Nico Prost fights to live up to his father Alain Prost's racing legacy.

Brendon Hartley violated a yellow zone that was imposed after the #41 Greaves-Gibson LMP2 car stopped on the track at 20:07 with a dead battery. Brendon wasn't helped by the fact that the warning light in his cockpit, which indicates when there is a slow zone, had just broken.

Darren Cox told the media that the #22 Nissan had been forced into the garage after being "hit by a UFO." The official report later suggested it was a small animal or piece of debris that hit the car.

Nissan was facing a host of problems at this point in the race. Namely, their cars were running without any electric power due to a disconnected rear drive hybrid system. This left them with a mere 550hp from the combustion engines - a shadow of the power wielded by front-runners Porsche and Audi.

On top of their lack of electric power, Nissan faced recurring problems with their clutch, overheating brakes, locking gears and electronics that, on more than one occasion, required a "ctrl-alt-delete" style reboot.

In spite of their problems during the race, Rebellion claimed the second fastest speed in qualifying with driver Dominik Kraihamer clocking in at 339.1 km/h.

Despite having a driving legend for a father, Nico Prost started his professional racing career at the relatively late age of 22.

Like his father, Nico is a top golfer. He won multiple tournaments while attending Columbia University.

Alain Prost was nicknamed 'The Professor' during his F1 career for his tactical and scientific approach to racing - as opposed to the impulsive, metaphysical view of his arch-rival, Ayrton Senna.

Alain Prost intended to become a professional footballer until he tried karting on a family holiday at the age of 14. It was the beginning of a racing career that would see him be crowned F1 champion four times.

Nico Prost's wife, Delphine, runs a motorsport inspired fashion label, '8J', with Nico's brother, Sasha. The line is named after the many iconic drivers of the 60s and 70s whose names started with "J," such as Jo, Jack, Jim and James. The "8" represents the infinity symbol in remembrance of those astonishing years.

Timo Bernhard has been with Porsche since the age of 18. He had a brief foray with Audi from 2009 to 2011, and won Le Mans with Audi in 2010.

John Hindhaugh's favorite time to commentate is between midnight and 4am. He believes this is when the balance of the race most often shifts.

Throughout the first day, Audi had been able to go longer than Porsche without changing tires. Closer to night, as temperatures began to fall, Porsche was able to make their tires last just as long, negating a key advantage for Audi.

The voice you hear over the Audi radio is Leena Gade, the #7 car's race engineer. In 2011, she became the first female race engineer to win Le Mans.

A Le Mans driver's heart rate while racing will average around 155 bpm. The driver's greatest challenge is winding down as quickly as possible after getting out of the car to take advantage of the narrow window for sleep.

During the night, parts of the track are nearly pitch black and it's often easier for drivers to hear cars approaching than it is to see them.

Driving at night is an unusual experience for a racer and many drivers have theories on how to gain an advantage in the dark. Some drivers have adopted a carrot based diet, believing it would improve their vision; others swear by blackberries for the same reason. In the year 2000, Cadillac installed a state-of-the-art night vision system in their cars. At the end of the day, however, most drivers still find it's best to run on instinct.

Based in New Zealand and Asia, Earl Bamber hadn't raced in Europe until he joined the Porsche LMP1 team.

Although they hadn't raced together professionally before 2015, Earl Bamber and Brendon Hartley knew each other from joining the same go-kart club in New Zealand as children.

In 2008, Earl Bamber was rated as the sixth best future star in racing.

This is not the most unfortunate thing to happen to Marcel Fässler at Le Mans. In 2008, he was hospitalized after being involved in one of the most dramatic crashes in recent memory while navigating the Porsche Curves.

The last time a crew of British drivers won was in 1957 - Ivor Bueb and Ron Flockhart with the Ecurie Ecosse Jaguar D-type.
