The role of Alison was originally written as a "mixed race" girl but Chanel Marriot's audition was so powerful that the role was rewritten for her. To quote the director, "She was undeniable."
Bruce Marchiano wrote the screenplay at his kitchen table based on a story idea he'd scribbled on paper 15 years earlier of God appearing to a young woman struggling with pregnancy.
Lead actress Chanel Marriott is Australian and in "real life" speaks with an unmistakable Aussie accent.
